HELP!!washing machine troubles

My 26yo son washed his clothes and somehow the string in his shorts twisted itself around the agitator and I can't untwist it!!.I'm leaving for Disney on Monday and need to fix this and do wash-I don't want to call in a repairman if I can fix it myself and save $-If not he will be paying for the repair-his $$ is not a lot so thats why I posted on the budget site
Anybody have any suggestions or can direct me to a repair it yourself site?

You can't cut the string off?

No I wish it was that simple-its wrapped around the bottom underneath I can't spin the agitator to free it

You probably need to remove the agitator. How you do that depends on your model. Try this google search and see if you see your brand/model

Did you find specific directions for your brand/model?

I've had that happen to shirts. It's the sleeves that got wrapped around underneath.

I just keep wiggling the shirt, turning it around untill I figured out what direction it was caught.

If the shorts are sticking out a bit grab them and go around in a counter clockwise direction (I think that's the way mine were wound) you will know soon enough if it's the correct way as it will start to come out. If it starts to wind back up again go the other direction and tug gently. You might have to pull and go back and forth.
