It is very hard when it comes to being "your choice"... with Kiani, I had the vet tell me in November that I should put her to sleep then. We were staying at the fort, and didn't feel it to be the right time, that should be able to enjoy her vacation.
I thought maybe a couple weeks later we could do it (the week before thanksgiving). And she was just so perky and happy and still doing everything fine, that I felt I would be cutting her life short.
Then mid Dec, she just managed to take a turn for the worse one night, and that's when I decided it was time. Life kinda got in the way and it had to get put off for a few days, but I took her on Dec 21. It felt strange that I was doing something so horrible right before Christmas, but at the same time, I knew she didn't know what time of year it was.
Up until I made up my mind, I couldn't figure out why every one was telling me that "i'd just know when it was time"... and then it happened. It's really hard knowing that you have to make that choice. At least a person can make up their own mind, and let others know that they're ready to go. With a pet you have to go with gut instincts.
