The day we are going to AK we are surprising the kids and eating at Tusker Donald Safari for breakfast- and we are at a loss as to what to do for lunch or dinner.....

We are on the DDP and will have one TS credit each to use

Our current options

-Go back to Tusker Buffet for late lunch since the food is different than Breakfast, the food sounds good, and we wont have to worry about hoping a bus to AKL with the kids

-Go to AKL Sanaa for lunch: the view looks amazing and food seems tasty, would have to take a bus there and have to take 2 buses back to our resort after eating with a 4yo and 1.5 yr old

-Go to AKL Boma for dinner buffet: good reviews, same bus issue as Sanaa

-Yak and Yeti for late lunch heard it was pretty good, no bus hoping needed

Any other suggestions appreciated too!

You can pay OOP and go to Rainforest Cafe. Or since staying at AKL, you have to try Boma while you're there.

Oh wait I just read your post again and I just assumed you're staying at AKL. If you're not, I suggest Yak & Yeti or Rainforest.

I'd go to Boma. We have always done this on our AK day. It's a quick bus ride to AKL and AK closes early anyway. We love to go to walk around AKL before our ADR. There are many viewing areas that you can enjoy the animals. It's such a beautiful resort! Boma is my kids favorite meal. They have absolutely the best desserts and we come out very stuffed from a wonderful meal.

and I saw Rainforest as a suggestion - have also read that you are on the dining plan, so Rainforest is not an option.

We chose Boma for our AK day. We did the Tusker House breakfast last time and loved it, but we decided not to do repeats on this trip. As someone else mentioned AK closes early so we didn't feel we'd be eating inot a huge chunk of park time to go to Boma.

However, with a long day at a park and two little ones I think I would personally chose Yak and Yeti to avoid all the busing.

I REALLY want to try Boma- but we are afraid of all the busing involved with 2 little ones (just as Pigletto suggested) Does anyone have experience with little ones and bus hopping? Is it quicker/easier than I am picturing it?

No Tusker lunch votes? We are also considering CS at restaurantosaurus and using our TS for a different day.... hmmmmm

I'd say Boma! The food is delicious and has a kid's section that is bound to please! Also, another thought on getting back to your hotel would be take the bus from AKL to Downtown Disney and then take the boat to POR. We find the boat is a nice break from the buses and always relaxes us. The kids might love it too and it might put them to sleep. We have seen numerous kids get on the boat wide awake and busy tailed and halfway thru it they are sound asleep. Just a thought!

BOMA is really good-----it is such a pretty resort....you shoudl definately go there...AK park tends to close early (5 ot 7 pm) so head on over to the resort for dinner when the park closes.

I'd absolutely recommend exploring the things that DAKL has to offer ( savannah, story tellers, etc) then have dinner @ Boma. I'd think about having lunch @ Pizzafari in DAK, lots of great options for everyone.

Well, if you want the best food, then you should go to Sanaa.

Do your Tusker House BF and spend the day at AK. Eat a light lunch at a CS. Then go to Kidani for dinner at Sanaa, try to get in around 5:30-6. AK will probably close at 5, so you can get maximum park time this way. After a wonderful meal at Sanaa, there are stories around the firepit at 7:30. Then after the stories, at 8:15, there is a drum circle in the lobby. At 8:30, in the library, there will be a special presentation. When I went, we learned all about the big cats of Botswana - Lions, Cheetahs, and Leopards!

Sanaa was the most excellent non-signature meal I've ever had at Disney. Boma is good, but Sanaa blew it away. The activites and the animal viewing at Kidani afterwards made it a really special evening. Even with the hassle of the bus transport, it is totally worth it.

If you really don't want to deal with the buses, then I would go with Yak and Yeti. That's the next best food after Sanaa. Boma is in no way bad, it just wasn't outstanding like Sanaa.

Sanaa is also easier to get an ADR for than Boma. It's less hectic, more relaxing, and you can see the animals from some of the tables inside the restaurant. No possible animal views at Boma.

I would say Boma.Take the bus over to AKL, walk around the check out the animals, then do dinner. I personally think it worth the bus ride, we always do dinner at AKL on our AK days rather than eating in the park.

Food awesome, resort fantastic, see the animals, sit & relax...all the best things in one place...can't go wrong :thumbsup2

really- you are all making this a hard decision!

I would LOVE to hear more abou the activities offered at AKL-

do you think they would keep my 4yo and 1.5 yo entertained after dinner?

THANK YOU for all the advice

The bus to AKL from AK is a very quick ride. Leaving to go back to your resort might be the problem because of the bus hopping you'll have to do to get back to POR. I will say that we have sometimes just taken a taxi from AKL back to our resort. It was well worth it. I think it was around 12.00. Last time, we were at Poly we took the bus to MK after Boma and got to see the fireworks from Wishes as we were arriving. That was fun.

go with Boma! I absolutely loved it! I have been four times! three times for dinner and once for breakfast! and i can say everytime I loved!!!!:yay:

Taking a cab is SO easy and SO much cheaper than most people realize. Sure it could add up if you took them everywhere, but for the odd resort-to-resort trip, cabs can't be beat.

P.S. Boma = YUM
