Help us choose a baby name

We have been blessed to find out that at 21 weeks our baby to be is happy, healthy, and growing right on target! We are also parents that like to be in the know...so we found out our second and last baby is going to be a BOY! Our prayers have been answered, as we wanted a brother for Conner. Now, we need help with naming our soon to be baby boy. We can't agree on anything now, but this happened last time also. My dh is stuck on Christopher....me not at all. Middle name...maybe, first..not at all. I like, Carter-Parker-Aiden-Brooklyn. I'm not married to any, but these are the one's I have been kicking around. We have Conner Xavier ..and with our last name, its perfect. So what boy names would you choose?

My ds is a Christopher & although it wasn't my first pick, my dh didn't like any names I chose for the if it is a boy (and I don't find out the sex until it comes out). So I told dh when I was preggo with #1 that it will just be a Jr after him (he is Christopher John). My dh hates his name but it was either that or a name he really hated that I really liked.

We ended up having a girl. Then I got preggo again & we did the whole name thng & again with the boy's names he didn't like. That one ended up being a boy so he was a Jr but we call him CJ which is what my dh used to be called.

Then we got preggo again & I though, ut-oh, great what am I going to do now & my dh ended up liking to a point Matthew so it was going to be Matthew John but it ended up being a girl.

Now I am fixed so I don't have to worry about boy names.

Anyways, if you choose an 'in' name now he will most likely be among quite a few Carters, Aidens (I do like that name), etc...

So far my dd is the only Kelli in her grade, there are no Christophers in my ds' preschool class & my youngest is Katie & I am sure there are a few of those but that is her name on her birth certificate, not a nick name.

I hated having 4 other Kerri's in my school. One I went to school with from K (Keri), the other I met up with at Jr. High (Kerry) & the other at HS (Kerry).

I have an Aidan.. I really had no clue when I named him that it was so popular! And his name always gets spelled Aiden by other people. I LOVE the name Cole and Tyler was also on my list for awhile. Good Luck! Picking the perfect name for someone you never "met" is SOOOO hard! Congrats on the new baby boy!

Oh one more thing about Brooklyn... tell him you'll be okay with it if you can name him Brooke Lynn... see if that will take the name off he list. I also know little girl named that.

I could tell already that you were not traditional. I only mentioned the spelling issue re: Aidan because you seemed concerned about feminization of names. Spelling Aidan as Aiden makes it feminine; it is kind of analogous to Lee and Leigh, to give another example.

It is risky to use "creative" spellings of names -- any name in any language. Any time one uses "creative" (for want of a better term) spellings of names that have been around for centuries, especially when those names originate in a language other than one's own, one runs a risk of looking not creative, but illiterate. As the world shrinks and people travel more, it is wise to be careful about what that "new" spelling might really signify in another language. This is borne out by studies that have shown that people who have "creatively spelled" names are often handicapped by them in their professional lives.

PS: If you want another Irish name that is similar in sound to Aidan, two suggestions I would throw out would be Tiernan or Ronan. Either one would eliminate your "two c's" problem. (Personally I never like naming multiple children in a family with the same initials -- it becomes a practical hassle when they have to mark their belongings for school, etc.)

My husband and I are having the same discussion. Carter sounds good, but I think Carter and Conner might get a bit complicated Personally, I like Christopher, even if he becomes Chris. In fact, that's what we're leaning towards ourselves.

I've got to say I don't understand this concept. The only times you are likely to be rattling them off in a list is on a Xmas card or similar, or when introducing them for the first time. I just don't see it as an issue (except that having different initials is more convenient.)

Sound counts when it comes to getting good "flow" into a surname, and that it shouldn't sound childish when the child becomes a man, but I don't think it matters how melodious a name sounds when recited next to a sibling's name.

Riley...thank you, I threw that out first (kind of knew that it was going to be a boy) Dh says that he doesn't like Riley....he thinks its a girls name. I really like it though! Thanks for reminding me...I will get that back out there.

I did a search for Irish boy names, and found Tiernan...a mouth full for me.

Kanhyzhah Simone. I really dislike this name with a passion...its pronounced Can-nye-shaa. It is so hard to hear, and doesn't sound girly at all! I wanted her to be named Ashley Brelle. Not my child though!

Congrats on boy number 2! I have two sons named Caden Michael and Carter Dean. I did not get to name either of my boys, so I am loving putting my two cents worth in If I were to have another boy (I'm done) I would probably name him Carson. Caden is 7 and when my dh brought up this name, he thought he made it up. I have heard the name over the past couple of years, but not a lot around here. Carter was named after a red power ranger by Caden. My dh's name is Christopher, so it does get confusing around here sometimes when I am shouting out names! Anyway, I just wanted to add my Caden and Carter in there. Good luck and congrats!

By the way, I did not like the name Caden until after he was born and named. Now I love his name.

When we had our son we came up with girls names no problem and had a hard time with the boys, of course we had a boy! My husband wanted a junior which I said no way to and I wanted a name he wasn't great with so we compromised on my husbands first name and the name I liked as the middle name so Thomas Hunter it became. I then made the stipulation that since my husband and his uncle were both named Tom we couldn't very well have 3 so we should call him Hunter. It worked and little did my husband know he was totally duped into the name I wanted. Maybe you could use Christopher somewhere since it appears that is the only name your husband wants and then pick one of yours to go with it and use that or the initials. Aiden Christopher is really cute and you could use A.C. and you're both happy. Hunter is cool too (granted I am predjudice) and there aren't to many of them. As for Brooklyn I don't mind it myself since I tend to like more origional names but with the Beckhams hitting the states people might think you chose it because of them. Just a thought. I like Cameron and it would be cute with Connor, and I like having the first names with the same first letter and I think Carter is cute too. We are all T's in our house Tom, Tracy, Thomas "Hunter" and Trafton Emily. As you can see by my daughter's name I do go for different names and so Aiden would be out for me not to mention my niece's name is Aidan. I was one of 6 Tracys in my HS class and 4 in my College class and I hated it because they were everywhere! So there's my 10 cents worth. Congratulations! What a wonderful blessing!

A couple of my friends have DD's that are Rylie, Ryleigh. In DS's school there is a Riley, boy. I, also, love that name for either...

It can be a girls name, as well.

I like the name Caden. It's sounds a lot like Aiden, but isn't as popular so it won't be overused. Plus, Caden and Conner sound really good together

Well, I love Connor (obviously, as that is DS's name) and we had our Caitlin first...so I don't have a problem with the first letter the same thing. Three other boys names we considered...Colin, Alexander (Xander for short) and Patrick Ryan.

I've always been partial to Nicholas, but DH hates it.

Since Connor is an Irish name, I'd go with something Celtic - Brendan, Patrick, Aidan, Ryan are all nice.

Haha, my DH was the same way with my kids. We could never agree on a name!
Anyway, my DS3m/o is named Aden (spelled differently). My other DS is Jack.
I like Ryan, Riley, and Gabriel too.
Hope you and your DH get it all sorted out and name picked soon enough!
