Help us capture smart mice!!!

Our exterminator would laugh when I would use the small glue traps. He'd give me the big long ones, and told me that they could "jump" the small ones.

He also said that if you have a dog, they are often attracted to the animal feces in the yard.

Our best method was finding any and all entry points and blocking them up.

we had a mouse eat my husbands motorcycle seat in our garage talk about needing to kill a mouse. We went to home depot and bought two traps that were extra large not the little ones and placed beef on them. REgular steak meat or meat chunks. I thought mice would not want beef but found that they did in less than an hour the mouse was in the trap and than my husband drowned it in a bucket of water.

Seriously? He couldn't have just put it outside?

I truly believe that the mice that we have are super smart, talk about survival of the fittest! We have spotted small baby mice in our home and I think that momma has educated her children very well on how to stay away from traps. As a teacher I can appreciate this passing on of knowledge, but I am sooo freaked out by them.:scared1: We have tried glue traps, and the regular traps, and they do not fall for it. My parents who live downstairs are doing the same as we are, and nada, zip, zero! I do not like to put out poison, because then we have to play the terrible game of find the disgusting smell;)

If anyone has any tips on how to capture our new intruders, I would greatly appreciate it.:flower3:

Live box traps. Those nice ones that trap but not kill so you can relese them latter. Just a bit of advice: NEVER put them in a heating duct in January. I did this to trap a little white mouse. Well I went out for 10 hours and came back to cooked mouse and a heck of a smell. Lysol anyone?

Yes he could have but, after having to purchase a new motorcycle seat for 600.00 and that is used. Harley Davidson don't give those away and I think he was gettign a little anger or steam off LOL in addition to the fact that we live in a subdivision where the houses are literally steps away from another it would have went to someones house.

Well, you asked for it, so I will give it. I used to work with rodents....thousands of them daily. They are carnivorous. What do they love to eat when nothing else is available? Each other. They start with the brain. Gross i know, but true. While I never tried it, I bet they would go for fresh liver or some other item you could purchase in the store. Take a piece and slice it, but not all the way. Take crushed poison and place it in the slit of the meat. If you place the poison on the outide, they are too smart for that. They can smell it. I had a loose rat that was eating my sugar gliders through the cages. I used one of the victims the way described and the rat died after eating the poisoned body. Of course, make sure none of your animals can get to the poisoned meat.

Seriously...where is the vomit smilie!!!

these situations remind me of the movie "Mousehunt". I have a cat with a killer instinct, so my suggestion would be to get a smarter cat with a known taste for small rodents!! Actually the sound thing sounds useful and the humane traps too!! Ms. Molly, had a mouse cornered the other day, and I got a pair of kitchen tongs and grabbed it by the tail, while shooing her away with my foot. I flung the mouse into the woods behind my house, basically giving him a good chance at survival and I swear to god, he screamed, he made this weeeeeeeeeeeee sound as he was flying thru the air. Ms. Molly heard it and took off towards the woods to look for him. I hope he got away!!

Before bed, put an empty paper towel roll hanging over the edge of your countertop so that the lightest touch will cause it to fall off. Place the bait (I found cheese crackers work well) at the very end that is off the counter. Directly under the tube place a tall garbage can with some newspaper or and old towel (to cushion the fall) and some more bait. The mouse will crawl down the tube to get the bait and its weight will tip the roll and fall into the trashcan. It will eat the food in the bottom of the can and probably fall asleep under the paper. In the morning you can find it a new home outside. This has never failed me.

waaaaaay nicer and humane than drowning the poor things..... :thumbsup2
very creative!!

i have to agree that mice are super cute! they may not have a lot going for them but God sure gave them the adorableness factor!

The sad thing is this picture was taken in my kitchen the even sadder part is that my DH felt sorry for it and rescued it and put it out in the garden:confused3 the cat (Walt )was mighty unhappy with him :rotfl:

Traps have to be placed along a mouse's route, not just randomly on the floor someplace.

What I did was place the sticky trap exactly where they pooped...then used a kleenex to pick up the poop and put it on the sticky trap...LOL...it worked!!

need suggestions also.
one of kitchen outlets for our cable connection has popped away from the wall. ( one of those projects you put off fixing).. we saw a mouse crawl out shi,,y down backwards to the top of a box we keep keys in, drop down off the keys & take off across the counter. jave not seen it go anywhere past the microwave.......
we set out 2 traps, peanut butter. ignored the 1st & it climbed right OVER the one under the outlet up & in.. hmmmm. we have to sitiuate it with percision, since the cords coming out of the wall interfere with trap shutting.
do sfter s slight rearraingement with that soft dog food as bait we caught 2, I still think there are more relatives down there though.
maybe we need to get the sticky paper.
I had one of those electronic sonic thingd, but thought maybe it would just shuffle the critters to the other side of the house, & worried about the other small pets ears.
