Help!! Travel agent increased bill by $1010.52 (UPDATE)

GRUMBO...

FYI... your base figure that you are calculating from is different from the OP's.

MJ

YEP, I have the confirmation from October 2003 with the total and the balance due.

I haven't talked to her yet, I called and she wasn't in, but when I told the person that answered how upset I was, she told me she would have her call me around 2:00 today.

I am no longer upset, I am angry! I don't think this is the way I should have been notified. If she had called me when there was a problem, we could have taken care of this right away. Instead, I get a receipt in the mail $1010.52 more than I was told and not even told why. IMHO, what she did was just wrong.

In Grumbo's defense, I put the wrong amounts in the first time and had to go back and fix them.

Sorry again Grumbo:)

Cindy

If using AAA, didn't they give you a confirmation that was faxed from Disney. That's what I've gotten both times, I got a faxed confirmation sent to AAA from Disney. I would check that amount. Whatever that amount is, is what you should pay.

I would also call Disney and check and see if they can do anything, probably not, but you never know.

Thanx Cindy..
I saw an edit on your first post and thought perhaps thats where I got those numbers from.
Truly starting to think I was losing it. OK many think it was lost a long while ago but that isn't important at the moment :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Is there a latest? I think they have to honor the original price, I hope that's how it's resolved. It's such a shame that you've had to go through all this grief.

Cindy,
While reading your post, I noticed you were from PA and I kept thinking...I wonder if her TA is AAA....

Then you post that your TA is AAA. Well, not sure where in PA you live, but the TA in the AAA office I used was horrible!!! She messed up our ressies in the worst way - wrong cabin (after sending me an original confirmation with the cabin we wanted), wrong dates AND wrong amounts.

I'm wondering if this is the same lady!!!!

PM me if you want! I don't want to slam someone on the boards, but I'll be happy to tell you if we are/were using the same office

Let us know how it works out!

Sending pixie dust!!:wizard:

Ok, here is what I found out so far. According to my TA, when she put down the $2300.00 payment I just gave her , Disney sent the receipt with the $1010.52 increase. She has a call into Disney to try and find out why, but she doesn't think she will hear anything until Monday or Tuesday.

Now I am even more confused. I know for a fact that when I booked this in October 2003, the price I was given was correct (it was also identical to the price on Disney's website).

I guess I will have to wait until I hear something more from my TA. But, I refuse to pay it!!!! Like I said before, for the price that this trip would cost me with the $1010.52 added on, I could book a catagory 4 for October 2005!

I would really hate to cancel. Not only do I have two shore excursions booked already, but DD 10 has been talking to a few of the other girls her age that will be on this cruise.

This is going to drive me crazy until I find out what the heck is going on!!

Will Disney even talk to me about it if I call, or will they tell me I have to go through my TA? I would love to get this straightened out before the weekend/holiday.

Wish I had better news.:sad2:

Be very careful and very thorough with all of your paperwork, Cindy. It sounds to me like your TA screwed up and is blaming it on Disney (much easier to blame others). Whatever your receipt from October 03 says, that is the price that should be honored by AAA. Moreover (hypothetically), if you booked directly through Disney last October and went to make a payment today, if there was a price increase between now and then they WOULD NOT make you pay that difference. It sounds to me like the TA really made some errors on your reservation. Don't let her take advantage of you...they should honor your original contract.

***PD to you and your family. Please keep us updated.

All my best,
Melody

I think I would give it a try and give DCL a call now. There is nothing worse than having to worry about something over a long holiday weekend. I feel like everyone else that since you have documentation showing what you paid and the balance due, that is all you should have to pay.

Cindy:

Two years ago when I booked my first cruise I booked through AAA and also had nothing but problems. I pretty much had to learn all I could here and go back to her and tell her exactly what I wanted done and even then she would screw up. I do all the work and she gets a commision, that's not happening again!

I was able to call DCL's 800 number and get information even though I went through AAA. If the first agent doesn't help you try another and explain that you just need to confirm numbers because you are afraid you are being taken. I was lucky they even let me correct errors in names on the tickets without going through the AAA agent so they should help you.

Also, DCL has been having some problems with their system since the computer upgrade so it could just be a misunderstanding. Give them a call so that you don't waste a weekend worrying.

This just keeps getting more and more frustrating. I put in a call to DCL and spoke to a person in reservations and she search my file and doesn't even see a reference to where my TA called to investigate this problem!!

I just left a message with my TA, she is now in the office, but was on a phone call and couldn't take my call. I told them I want some kind of answer today!!!

This is getting ridiculous. I have never had a problem with them before.

I am now back to almost in tears again. I know one thing, I will probably never deal with this TA again. Not only has she not called me once about this (I keep having to call her), but now I feel she is lying to me.:(

Cindy, Forget the TA and speak to a Supervisor at the Agency now. I have a hard time believing what the TA told you. It sounds as if she made a mistake and is trying to blame it on Disney. Since you have all of your paperwork, the agency should honor the original price given to you when you made the deposit.
Go over the TA's head to her supervisor.

Cindy:

I have transferred my ressie to my AAA office for my August 2005 reservation. I have used them before and sometimes you do have to keep on top of them, but I love the onboard credit benefits.

However, I have called DCL directly many many times this year with questions about my reservation and add-ons about anniversaries and dinner table requests, etc. and they let me make the changes even though I have a TA (not AAA for this year's trip).

I would DEFINITELY call them directly and ask for a supervisor and explain everything. I DO NOT believe for one minute that DCL added the extra money on purpose -- they do not increase your fare once your reservation is made. IMHO, it sounds like your AAA TA didn't book right away in October and by the time she did the price went up and now she is trying to pass it discreetly onto you.

I hope that is not the case -- you just hate to see a trusted TA not be upfront about their errors.

Please keep us informed. But for your peace of mind, I would call DCL today. Tell them your TA is not cooperating and not available and you need to resolve this before the weekend or you will have to cancel!

No advice, just a *hug* for your frustration :( I have a feeling that it will get all ironed out in the end, since you do have your original paperwork, but you shouldn't have to go through all this stress in the meantime!

By the way, why would Disney NOW increase the price of the cruise? That alone doesn't make sense!

Cindy21494,

I wouldn't worry too much, with the paperwork that you have showing you deposit etc you should be able to get resolution on this. Even if AAA has to eat the difference.

We also have a reservation for that cruise that was booked in Oct 03, 2 adults and 1 child 11 our cost thru a TA was 3146.00. So they would be able to verify the quote (along with your proof) based on the time of your deposit.

Don't let this spoil your trip...

Did DCL tell you when the reservation was made when you called?

Denise

When I called DCL, they told me they are not able to access my reservation without the TA codes. I will give my TA half an hour, then I am calling DCL again to see if they can at least verify when the reservation was made.

I really hate to think she is lying to me and passing her mistake on to me, but I feel she is avoiding me right now and that makes it very suspicious. I am a very trusting person, so that sometimes gets me into trouble. Luckily, my DH deals with problems with work all the time, so if it gets too much for me (unfortunately, I get very emotional) he takes over and gets it done. We're a perfect fit, he's the sensible take charge type of guy, and I am the emotional basket case.:teeth:

Hopefully this will all work out. Thank you for all your advice, it is the only thing keeping me from going insane right now.

Cindy

Cindy:

When you called DCL did you tell them up front about the TA? I would call and immediately say this is my reservation number (it's on the original piece of paper from when you made you deposit) and then when the information was in front of them I'd ask questions. They may have become more strict in the last 2 years but I just acted as if I didn't have a TA and I could slide through the crack.
