Help... Teen daughter needs a new swimsuit for summer/Disney...

Try a Nike or more sporty 2 piece suit. Might find one at a sporting goods store.

I just got DD14 a couple of bikinis at Delia's. They had all different styles, some with more coverage than others. The other good thing is they're sold as separates, so DD was able to get an XS top and a S bottom.

Lands End bathing suits are the equivalent of wearing house coats for teens! :rotfl: Dd16 wears string bikinis, just like every other teen I know (and she runs with a VERY mild crowd - honor society choir kids). Dd10 and dd12 started refusing to wear LE bathing suits years ago (they were always my go-to, they hold up very well, and yes, I wear them). They just wear Target bikinis - won't even wear tankinis.

Oh, I don't know; this hardly looks like a housecoat to me:

Lots of teen girls I know prefer the "lifeguard bikini" look because the pieces stay put, and boys can't embarrass you by sneaking up and untying your top. Land' End carries those as well:

For girls that are have the individuality to wear them, retro suits can be a great option, especially if you are curvier; here is one that Macy's is offering; it looks straight out of a 1960's beach party flick:

That is simply adorable! Oh, to be that size and able to wear it!
My DD9 is a little large for her age and unfortunately she is self-conscious enough that she won't show her belly button. I'm hoping she'll go for those Catalina Suddenly Slim suits in another year or two. Not for the slimming necessarily, I just like the retro look. Chances of ever getting her to try on a lifeguard bikini are slim to none. But if she sprouts up and turns 180 on the belly-button issue, I'll try to remember that style, for the safety issue!

People have probably already suggested these but my go to shops for swimsuits (although I am not a teen) are Athleta and Patagonia. Cute, comfy, stylish and not frumpy. Good board shorts too.

I would try Target, JCP, and Kohls. It doesn't matter where you buy the swimsuit, you just have to find one in a style that works for your daughter. For me, obviously not a teenager;) I buy slenderizing suits. They usually have great support too. Nike suits are usually great for younger girls. Try try try them all on.

Athleta is my new-found love.

And I was actually going to suggest a sporting goods store for a more "sporty" swimsuit...like nike or speedo.

It also comes in a tankini top, and you can buy a higher-waisted bottom as well, though that only comes in the solid colors. LE's Aqua Terra line is especially good for kids who wear adult sizes, as they are built for an athletic frame; straighter and less busty.

Also, just FYI, for those who need something in a plus-size, swimwearforall.com is a fabulous resource with plus-sized suits that are on-trend, and their prices are excellent. (They even have modestly-cut retro plus-sized bikinis.)

Thanks again for all your help - I love my Dis friends - they always have the most wonderful advice. :)

I've opened all of the recommended sites and left them open on the computer - hopefully she will see them and find something she likes, with out me telling her that I like it.

If you think of anything else - please let me know. :lovestruc

Maybe Nike's bikini collection would fit your criteria? Their basic bikinis are awesome, very sturdy and supportive, no strings, quite classic but still pretty. Most of my friends have or have had one, and all of us see them as a great compromise between a flingy and unreliable bikini and a sometimes too conservative/boring one piece (though I do own all of those too ;)). The black one is most commonly seen, though it exists in several colors. The nice thing is they're very mainstream, so several stores should have them, and you may even be able to snatch one on sale since they're so common!

Looking through the website, they also seem to have several more interesting designs that are fun but not too revealing, and none of them are stringy. Basically, sporty and sturdy swimsuits but with style - now to see if it fits a teenager's definition of style :rotfl: They're definitely worth a look IMO, whether it's online or at your local sporting goods stores :)

If your willing to spend the money- Athleta. Great quality, will last forever, some cute options she may compromise on. Good luck, mine is 7 and I'm already going through the first stages of this. Not fun!

I would definitely suggest athleta and also title nine. They have a ton of mix an match options. They aren't cheap but will hold up for years.

Another vote for Athleta...lots of great options to mix and match. Shouldn't be hard to make both of you happy!

I only buy athleta now! They have free returns too! They have a few stores. Never bought from title 9 but love the catalog!

I was just at Old Navy and they had lots of options between bikinis, tankinis and one piece suits. Plus they are on sale for $10 a piece. Heck, I'm 41 and have several bikinis from them.

I'm 25 and obviously not a teen but I was worried about finding a cute, coverage appropriate and supportive suit. I wasnt sure what style I wanted because I wasnt sure I would feel comfortable in a bikini but I found the one at JCP!

I mixed and matched to make the perfect one for me. It's a really cute retro black and white polka dot bikini top (they had bottoms too but I didn't like the cuts, one was a high wasted one, really cure but didn't look right for my figure and the other was the usual bikini cut but they didn't have my size) and just a plain black bikini bottom. Took me a few to try on til I found this one. The top is super supportive, I can't remember if it had a wire or not (that's usually something I look for because I need it) but it does have a little bit of padding to hold ya in. And it was very affordable (they are also currently on sale too!). I can't wait to wear mine at Disney! Hope she finds one she likes.

Ok, I have all boys, but let me tell ya', I watch those girls! Holy moly, I keep, having to tell my oldest DS that most of the girls hanging on him are just too old for him. He doesn't get it because he is actually older than them, but I just keep telling him that proves my point. lol

I do have 8 nieces though, 11 - 24 years old. Girls should be covered to a degree (bellies don't bother me, but full butt coverage is a must and proper chest support), but the need to be cute and trendy too. I think most girls need two suits. One for hanging out by the pool/beach and one for swim/water parks. Check out the sports stores for the latter. They'll have suits that can hold up to swimming, skiing, etc, but still be fairly cute. They aren't all swim team suits. Look for the former at just about anywhere, but purchase separates. It helps to get what each girl needs individually to fit her body--not just looks, but support.

divine modestee carries great suits with coverage and support options. I think you may find a compromise here. They are not cheep suits but they are great quality classy swimwear. Most tops are adjustable. Wear them like a tankini or a swim dress whatever your comfortable with for the I occasion. Best I have found for price is $99 with free shipping but its worth it. I won't be buying elsewhere again.

We had good luck at Kohl's here. I know my daughter was worried about a bikini untying itself, but she was able to find a few two-piece swimsuits that didn't rely on just one knot.

She still has a great one-piece she got at Macy's a few years ago that's more water park ride friendly.

Tie a square knot in the sides before tying the bow on the bikini bottoms. Thwarts troublesome MS and HS boys every time. :lmao: My 12 year just got her first bikini (I finally gave in and frankly if I had her body, I'd want to wear a bikini too) and I showed her how to tie the sides so that even if someone pulls the ties or one snags on something, nothing unties or comes off. :thumbsup2
