Help! Swiffer cloth replacements?

What do you use instead of buying the expensive replacements? I bought a pack of microfiber cloths thinking they would work, but they don't slide....they stickto the floor. What else??? TIA.

I use white washcloths. I bought mine at home depot, I think they were $10 for 15. But the best thing is you can wash and reuse, just buy new ones when the terry knap (?) wears down...that is what grabs the dust. I've had mine about 3 years now, and since I cycle through enough of them I haven't had to replace any yet.

I have not found a suitable replacement for the wet cloths yet. I tried soaking the washcloth in cleaner, but it leaves the floor sticky. Might just be my cleaner though.

Warning about the Dollar store replacements: they do not work as well. I tried them to save money but wasn't happy with them at all, so went back to Swiffer brand.

I use the microfiber cloths, and I don't have a sticking problem. But, I've also used just plain white terry wash clothes and that works well too.

I have a swifter not a swiffer so I have a bottle of cleaner that squirts. I was sick of buying the expensive pads that dont really absorb well and leave a film on the floor. I use an old beach towel and hold on the one end while I swift with the other end. Leaves no film and I just throw it in the wash to clean.

oh, I can't remember the name of the thing I use, but I got the idea off of here. It is a green washable terry cloth strip that is made for a different kind of sweeper/mop-anyone know what I'm talking about? It is really close to where the swiffer products are, and costs $5-10, but it's washable and works great!

I buy the grocery store brand, at least for the dry cloths. They're a good bit cheaper and work just as well. The store brand wet cloths work well, but tend to dry out in storage...or maybe that's because I don't clean very often!

Well I'm in Canada but I use something called "Magic Blue". Theoretically you could use it wet or dry, but I only use mine as a sub for Swiffer Wetjet pads. And it workd even better than the pads!! Rip it off and throw it in the wash when you're done. They're about $5.00. Vileda makes one, too. Everything I saw at the dollar store was way too thin for this use, although the microfiber clothes from the Dollarama are suitbale for hand dusting, and do a great job.

Btw. . .for the poster who asked about using dryer sheets. . .I bet that would work well as long as they are big enough. I have used them to dust before and they work great. I use them once they are used. . .I think if you used them before they would be too sticky. HTH

Target brand dry and wet disposable cloths are really good.

I've used the BJ's wet cloths and they left a sticky film on the floor.

I did not care for the Target brand ones at all! First of all they aren't big enough to entirely cover the Swiffer, and they just didn't pick up as well.

I too would love a cheaper alternative, but so far the Swiffer brand cloths just work the best! If I'm out, I have used a paper towel, Viva seems to work the best.

Yes, I use my spent dryer sheets sometimes too! They do work as they are rough all over. I use 2 since 1 does not cover the pad. I just overlap them and tuck in the corners.
Dryer sheets also work great for quick wipeups on vanities and bathroom sinks. They grab the hair and Im not wasting paper towels.

I also use the $ store brand cloths and a dust mop works even better on my wood floors and it is washable.

For all my cleaning needs, I use painters rag. You can get a big box of white rags at Home Depot or Lowes for about 5$. They come in all sizes, and pretty much they're scraps of cloth from sheets or shirts being made at the factory, so you'll get a mix of fabrics as well. The sheets scraps are good window cleaning, and shirt scraps are good for scrubbing. If I use them for general cleaning i just toss them in the wash. If I have to use them for something nasty like dog puke, I just toss them out. I've used them as well for swiffer. I still have a package of the swiffer wet pads, but I try to use them when they're most needed and can clean all hard surfaces at once because it's only in the kitchen and bathroom.
