My 12 year old daughter mentioned to me that she would like to start pin trading on our trip next summer...I think she feels she is "too old" for autographs now. We are WDW regulars but have never gotten into pin trading. Thought it would be a nice Christmas gift to get her started before we go. Any advice or suggestions welcome!

Start watching DisneyShopping they have some pins on a good sale every now and then.

E-bay buy some pin lots you can get original Park pins for about $2 to $3 when buying these.

We just took about 10 down with us for this small trip and have a bunch more to take in Dec.

She still has some time to trade with the Green lanyards (3-12 yearolds) but there's plenty on others we came back with some real keepers.

Find a way to display them so they don't just sit on the lanyards at home (corkboard works well we use a park Banner ). DD also likes the Pinbags and not the lanyards as they are easier to carry and you don't have to worry about a pin falling off.

Thanks for the info. She will actually be 13 when we go next summer...is there a certain lanyard she should have?

No she can keep her pins on any lanyard ,Pin bag or in her pocket.

When trading the CM's with the green lanyard can only trade with the 3-12 yrolds. She can trade with all the other Cms also even if they are not wearing a lanyard ask sometimes they have it on a belt/board type thing.

We have a bunch of fun with it.Here's some of DD's pins

Do you have a Disney Store near you? If so, they've really ramped up they're pin inventory the past year. And they have sets of 3-4 pins, about $8.50 for the set. That's a decent price. Sometimes the CMs trading do a double-take with Disney Store pins because I think they're not used to seeing them & want to make sure they aren't the cheapos. But they're totally acceptable for trading.

You'll want to stock up before you get down there because it's toughing spending $8-$12 on a pin just to trade it.

And even if you think you have enough pins stocked up to trade, BUY MORE! We always seem to run out way too soon.

Have fun!

***Beware***

Pin trading/collecting is VERY addictive!

Don't say I didn't warn you! :)

I can really back that up! I Just bought my first 16 pins (Ebay) and I dont even have a lanyard yet. I havent even gotten those yet, and I can't wait to get more at christmas time! (I spent a total of $58 on the first 16) About 3.63 each (inc shipping) isnt too bad, right? :)

I've gotten three on ebay so far. I need to get a pin lot for her to trade though. I think she will really enjoy trading once she gets started!

Just bought some at the disney store in my local mall. 3.99 each and then 30% off of that. Some cards had three on one card for that price, thats what I bought so they could have a start when we go. So how does it work they trade one of their pins for one of the staffs pins?

Hi, can someone explain in detail what pin trading is all about... Who does it, where, what types of pins etc.
Thanks

wines- I want a disney store!!! Does anyone on here trade pins for other things? Mabey those handheld travel games which I have a million of?

I just placed an order at pinfinder with a dot and com. They have different lot sizes, and of course, the more you order the cheaper they are. This is my first order, so we'll see how it goes, but I bought the 100 pin lot for $2.40 a piece. I'll let you know what they are like when they get here.

Here’s the report on the pins from pinfinder. I ordered the 100 pin pack for $2.40 each. I received the following:
15 designs I got quadruples of (so this knocked out 60 of my 100 pins). Of these, 1 design was a Hidden Mickey, 1 design was a LE 5,000, and 3 designs were cast lanyard pins. I got one triple of a pin and 8 doubles. Of the doubles, 1 design was a cast lanyard series, 1 design was a Hidden Mickey and 1 design was a Disney Vacation Club pin. So that left 21 individual unique pins in my lot. Of those I got 1 cast lanyard pin, 1 All American Festival pin, 3 Hidden Mickeys, 2 Magical Gatherings pins (and these were quite large), 1 LE of unknown edition size, and 1 LE of 250! Of all these, there are 27 that are staying in my collection - the rest will make good traders. Of course I don’t know what kind of selection you might get if you order, but the price is good and the pins were each sealed in their own bags and in good shape. I received the package by priority mail 4 days after I paid for it. It may seem like there are a lot of repeat pins in the lot, but they do tell you that you will get them on their site. There were no Sedesma or ProPin or EuroDisney pins. I think it was a fair deal!

Hi, still hoping that someone will explain the pin trading. What type of pins and how it works???? PLEASE.....
