Here is our situation. We are planning on making our first trip home next summer. My DH and I are taking his parents and our niece for their first ever trips (my Mom might also tag along, but she was there last December with us). This is our first time staying DVC because my DH and I just bought in. We own 150 points at SSR, June UY.

We are definitely going to do a 2 bedroom. We are planning on using all our 2005 and as many 2006 points as necessary (max of 300 points). We don't have enough points for SSR for the 7 nights we want to go (316 points). So, here are the two best options I have:

1. Book 6 nights at SSR 2 bedroom and 2 rooms at Pop Century for the last night. Not a budget buster (concern for inlaws) plus we have a free night at Pop Century due to a bad stay there on our honeymoon.

2. Book above, but at 7 month window, try and get a two bedroom at Old Key West for all seven nights (296 points).

My husband doesn't want to move around more than necessary and we want our first timers to have a great and very disney experience. We go frequently and would be fine with either option, but I want to give them and our niece a great trip. which option do you think would fit our family the best?

Thanks in advance!

My vote would be for the entire stay to be at OKW, because I just wouldn't want to move.

Congratulations on your puchase and I hope you have a great first visit home, whatever you decide.

My red flag was staying at Pop the last night. Ugh. I would rather start out at the value and move to SSR.

puffkin,

You could rent/transfer the extra 16 points from another member and stay at SSR.

Just a suggestion,

Jim.

Or just make it 6 nights at SSR and then go home?

Personally, I'd rent the extra points. 16 points is about $160. More than you would have paid for the Pop rooms...but worth it.

Since there's 5 of you, I'd go for OKW since the unit is so much larger than the SSR units. Remember OKW has two couches and a full size kitchen compared to the smaller units at all the other WDW DVCs which have apartment size appliances and a much smaller living room.

Besides, this saves you some points and you won't be at a resort that has construction going on. While SSR is nice (we were there several months ago), IMO the construction detracts from the "Disney" experience, at least for now.

Depends on the dates ofcourse....
I just booked a 2 bedroom at the 7 mo mark. For the 1st week in May.

Taking family with us. I know they would like any of the resorts but we love the roominess at OKW.

I'd say OKW the whole time!

If you stay at POP - make it the first night, not the last.

We just did this last weekend. Got in to POP around 10PM, went right to the room and slept a little (in full size beds - it was tough.) Got up early in the morning, walked around a little, had a great breakfast at the POP food court - hubby was impressed with the quality of the food. And then headed over to BCV to play at SAB until the room was ready at 3:00.

If we were to make the move at the end of the vaca, I would just rather head home.

Just my .02.

The only reason I thought to do Pop last is that we won't be renting a car and will be taking a town car service from the airport to the hotel. We definitely want to do a grocery stop and will be picking up perishables. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to store groceries at Pop and then moving them to SSR. Also, my MIL is the type that needs to see and touch things, so I doubt she would want to do a grocery delivery service.

OKW for 7 nights, without a doubt. Moving for one night only is a big hassle. OKW is *much* roomier in the living room/ktichen area with a full size kitchen and full size washer/dryer. Stay at OKW and then take them for a tour of SSR model rooms so they can see your "home resort".

I think that we have decided to do OKW for the 7 nights if we can get it at the 7 month mark. I was concerned about the pool area, but with them putting in the new slide, I think it should be great. I already have SSR booked for those 6 nights, so if we can't get OKW we at least have a backup.

Thanks for the suggestion of touring SSR. I wanted our folks to see our home resort, and this would be a good way for them to do that.
