Help Solve a Wedding Debate

Hmm.. I didn't even think about what color we'd be wearing!!! :scared1:

I look surprisingly good in orange but I'm not sure about the other girls. Maybe she'd go with grey? Hmm.. yeah. That would be an issue.

Gray is exactly what I thought when I saw the color board you posted.

This color or lighter with the orange coming into play with the flowers you are carrying. With this dress being iridescent, depending on the lighting, it will shimmer and change colors.

There are all shades of orange, a dark burnished orange would look very wintery if that is what she is worried about. think tapestry colors.

I think she should go with the color she likes and work within the different hues because if she relents and goes with another color she will always regret it and when she remembers he wedding it will be with "I wish I had went with the color I wanted, I never really liked that, why did I let them talk me out of it"

Well that's easy - South Florida only has two seasons, hot and less hot. I think her "inspiration board" is really pretty.
Isn't that the truth! :lmao: And we don't get "less hot" until about January... :cloud9:

Glad to know someone thinks it's pretty! It's starting to grow on me.

I'm definitely interested in some more opinions as it seems that everyone just hates orange and is letting that interefere with their opinion of colors and seasons. :cool2:

I didn't read through all the replies, but my first thought is let the bride pick the color she wants. It's her wedding and then when she sees the photos 10 years from now and say oh my why did I pick that color, it will be her own fault.

Who cares really? Orange, pink, purple...does not matter in the grand scheme of life.

I prefer black.

Added:

This dress also comes in gray, but looks much lighter. Won't let me copy the info to actually post the picture.

That's actually the color I think would be perfect! It almost looks a little snowflake-y, right? Maybe? A little...? Just trying to get the "December" in there!

You're a genius. That's a great idea! Hmm.. now if only I could find some good pictures of the color!

Knowing it's in Florida changes my feelings a bit, lol. I'm stuck in the frozen tundra that is NY so I'm thinking snow and cold. I think she should do whatever she wants!

Here's a start.

If you go to this color chart for helene bridal and click on orage for each of the different fabric selections, it shows how the orange varies from each materal type.

So, does one have to abide by seasonal colors for a wedding?

Of course not.

Here's a picture of her "inspiration board":

I think it's beautiful. Of course...welcome to the world of trying to make nature adhere to just ONE shade of orange (my own personal Hades when I was doing red for our originally planned wedding). :3dglasses

As for dresses, just b/c a wedding color is x doesn't mean the dresses will be all x. After we switched gears for our wedding (was doing red as main color but b'maids were going to be in chocolate brown b/c red is nearly impossible to perfectly match from one fabric/media to another) and I decided on pink and green (which, amusingly, means that I was following seasonal tones, since the first wedding was on Fall Solstice and then we switched to the following summer), instead of trying to find a pink or green that would "go" with faces, I chose a cream top and a green dupioni silk for the long skirts. Everyone looked lovely in the cream top, and the skirts didn't have an impact on how they looked at all. So don't get hung up on "what will WE wear"...choosing the color doesn't absolutely mean that the dresses will be that color. It's just a start. :)

Orange is my least favorite color, but it's her wedding, and if she wants orange, there's no good reason why she shouldn't have it. Last I heard, there are no wedding police to enforce the "seasonal colors only" laws.

What does the groom think about orange?

I know, I know, who cares what the guy thinks...

but if he and the bride like orange, then orange, it is.

I am not a big orange fan but I do think the photos above with the orange accents are very pretty.

Silly poster. Here is the heirarchy of opinions, regarding all things wedding

Bride
Mother of the bride
Maid/matron of honor
Sister(s) of the bride
Bridesmaids
Mother of the groom
Other friends of the bride
Father of the bride (but only if the bride and groom are not paying for it themselves)
Various bridal magazines and boards
Aunts & female cousins of the brides
Other family of the bride
Other family of the groom
Childhood friends of the bride whom she has not seen in 20 years
Random people on the street
The hobo who lives under the 8th street bridge
More random people on the street
The groom

Okay, kidding aside, if the couple want orange (or, more likely, she wants orange and he is pretty indifferent), so what? IME, and AFAIK, most people ignore all sorts of wedding attire "rules". (E.g. - according to the "rules", I was not supposed to have tails. I wanted tails for my tux. I got them. Of course, as the groom, I pretty much flew under the radar anyway. ;) )

Let's be honest, that is how it goes... :lmao:

I'm glad to get a man's perspective! Thanks so much!!

Only problem with that list and it is pretty true by the way is you forgot the wedding planner!

Those guys have a lot of sway with the brides and the mothers of the bride!

My DD would have strangled my nieces last year if she could have got her hands on him. My DD was told by the bride that the dresses were going to be a Tiffany blue but when the wedding planner heard he was " oh no" and the dresses ended up being BEIGE! plain old boring beige.

So you have to throw a wedding planner up there on the list.

( I don't think my nephew the groom knew what color anything was till the church, or cared, if truth be known)

The bride wants orange, she gets orange.

I like orange so we're good there. I would also suggest asking the bridesmaids if they have a preference for lighter or darker colors. My MOH swore that she wouldn't get near the airport to come to my wedding if I picked yellow, any shade of yellow. That was important info to know ahead of time. I don't like yellow so it was a non-issue.
