All I seem to post are wedding questions on the DIS; I know too many people getting married!! :lmao:

I'm in DFriend's wedding that's happening in December of 2012. She has her heart set on the color orange. Her mother and MIL to be keep telling her she can't have orange in December.

Her bridesmaids seem to be split (I'm indifferent) and now I need to know what the general population (okay, the DIS.. :rolleyes1) thinks.

So, does one have to abide by seasonal colors for a wedding?

EDIT: Picture of her "inspiration board" with the color orange she is talking about posted. :)

To me orange sort of screams Fall, but I could also see it used in spring or summer as well. I really can't see it in December but it is her wedding and I guess she can have whatever color she likes.

Not really. Isn't orange more fall anyway. It isn't like she is going for an Easter green or summery yellow. What do people want? Red and green?

The bride wants orange - orange it is. Now, I would encourage a darker shade of orange over bright!

I guess I think she should be able to have the colors she wants for her wedding regardless of the season.

However, orange is a funky color -- it can look just awful on some people (like me!). I would be more concerned about how the shade of orange she wants looks on the bridal party. What color would the tuxes be?

Well if it is on or after December 13th it won't matter. ;)

But yea..orange in December? Ewww. Sherert orange in spring/summer, dark orange in fall but no orange in winter.

Here's a picture of her "inspiration board":

I'm not really one to answer this because I despise orange. I think it screams Halloween and I can't stand 'fall' colors for flowers. If I was gettin married around the hoidays, I think I would do a deep color like wine or burgundy, maybe even a dark green or black.

I personally think it's kind of ugly, BUT it's her wedding, and if she likes it, I think it's fine. At least the gray tones it down a bit. Maybe she can go w/ an orange w/ a pinkish undertone.

What does the groom think about orange?

I know, I know, who cares what the guy thinks...

but if he and the bride like orange, then orange, it is.

I am not a big orange fan but I do think the photos above with the orange accents are very pretty.

When people heard that we were getting married Dec 21st, EVERY SINGLE one said...Ah, a Christmas wedding. Red and green will look so nice.

Boy were they all WRONG!!!

And seeing as for my entire life, making sure that my Christmas Eve birthday had it's own identity from christmas - b-day gifts never wrapped in cristmas paper and cakes with no christmas colors what so ever on it - you would think they would know that I would never combine the two.

Needless to say, our color was purple.

If your friend want orange and can find it in a shade she likes, tell her to go for it.

I'm emailing her this right now!! She knows she definitely doesn't want a "Christmas" wedding. Glad to know that you did what you wanted!!

UPDATE: the Groom doesn't seem to really care about the color but is happy with Orange.

DH and I were visiting a well known park in my home town in December a few years ago and we ran into about 7 weddings getting pictures taken and they ALL had various shades of red going on it was a little funny to be walking around a corner and run into another throng of RED. I say do what you want there is nothing wrong with being different and going with what you like. Just make sure that the colors compliment the people who are wearing them because the pictures will magnify anything like that.

FWIW, I think it would be fine down here in Florida. For some reason, the thought of an orange themed wedding in a subzero midwest state at the end of December isn't nearly as appealing, lol

ugh, personally, i think it's hideous, but it's not my wedding, and if the bride wants orange, she should have what she wants.
if it were me, i'd go for a deep purple or navy blue. my wedding was in june, and my bridesmaids wore royal blue (my favorite color).

I don't see anything wrong with using orange accents but does she really want the bridesmaids dresses in orange? Maybe find some pictures of wedding parties from the late 60's early 70's and see if that is what she really wants to look at in 30 years :lmao:

Around here, a winter wedding with a spring flair would be a nice change of pace. I don't think you have to abide by any rules for colors, etc. any time of the year-make your wedding what you want---BUT, be careful with things that are too trendy too.

If Dh had his way our wedding would have been purple and orange (joking, sort of). He's colorblind and thinks those colors look good together :lmao: We had a deep green for the bridesmaid dresses.

The wedding is in fact in Florida. South Florida to be exact.

Hmm.. I didn't even think about what color we'd be wearing!!! :scared1:

I look surprisingly good in orange but I'm not sure about the other girls. Maybe she'd go with grey? Hmm.. yeah. That would be an issue.
