We leave in 5 days. Unfortunately the forecast calls for lots of rain! Any experiences Dissers been in rain at WDW......I need advice. Should I pack rain ponchos and umbrellas? Or are umbrellas just a pain to tote around?

Any input and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

5 more days until we're at the Poly in WDW!!:cool1:

Ponchos! Umbrellas are not only a pain to haul around, but can be dangerous in crowds. Our family always buys a supply of the disposable ponchos. We even use them on non-rainy days for rides where you might get wet, like Splash Mt. or Kali River Rapids (we always take them off right after the ride and hang them on the half wall - someone always takes them right away to use. Hopefully, they leave them in the same spot for yet another family!

Hi again....I just noticed that you are from Utah. Last year DH and I spent a lovely vacation in Utah. Bryce Canyon was actually more impressive than the Grand Canyon - breathtaking! I live in NJ, in the metropolitan NYC area (26 miles from the Lincoln Tunnel). It was my first trip west of the Mississippi River. Wow! Who knew it was soooooo different from anything the east has to offer! A beautiful state.
PS...you will see very few umbrellas in WDW, and a LOT of ponchos!

I'm so glad you enjoyed Utah. I too think that Bryce Canyon is much better than the Grand Canyon!! When I tell most people that they also agree!

I'm excited for WDW. The rain won't spoil our trippy!

we are leaving on the 30th and are bringing ponchos with us. Last year it rained a couple of times and we had to buy them there. Didn't spoil our vacation. Can't wait to go!woohoo:

We also are leaving on the 30th and it is draaaaaaging by. We always take a supply of ponchos also. I checked the weather report this morning and it said rain the first three days we are there. However I just checked and it said rain only on the 1st. It changes constantly. I am hoping and praying for great weather. This has been a very rough we so we are looking forward to a great time--rain or shine.

We had rain in the forecast 2 weeks ago while we were there. I did bring ponchos from home and I toted them around on the days when there was a chance of rain. I'm pleased to say that we didn't need them once. I'd like to think that going through the effort of bringing them along helped to hold off on the rain! :cool1:

Poncho's only. Don't bring an umbrella - they just don't play well with crowds.

Go to your local Walmart/Target, go to the camping section, and buy those 99cent disposable rain ponchos. They are small enough to carry around, and cheap enough to throw out when you are done.

Or at my dollar tree there are 2 in a pack/dollar. They seem about the same as the Target ones....

Another vote for ponchos, although I also bring a small umbrella. I don't use the latter inside the parks, but negotiating to the car, at the resorts, etc. Since you're at the Poly, though, you might not need it.

Definately rain ponchos. I think you'd be sorry lugging around umbrellas. Have a great trip. No rain vibes comin your way!:goodvibes

Thanks so much for all the good advice and good vibes!! I just bought some 99 cent ponchos at Walmart today!!!

I'm hoping if I'm well prepared.......we don't need them! :yay:

4 more days and counting!

Yet another vote for poncho's but my reason for this is I am 6'4 which unfortunately puts those pointy parts on many peoples umbrellas right at face or eye level.

one addition to the ponch tip - wear a cap under the hood of the poncho. it will shade your face in sunshine and if it rains the rain won't beat so hard on your head or on your face. i read this tip on here several months before we made our trip last year. it was a good idea.

PONCHOS.....get the cheap ones at Target or Wal-Mart they are folded up very small, like .75, we just throw them away afterwards. I take 2-3 for each of us.

Ponchos are the most convenient.:thumbsup2
When you're on transportation during rain, you can actually sit and not get a wet bottom. Also keep your backpack under the poncho to keep it dry.
Be sure to get appropriate sizes, though. You don't want your husband to have a poncho that barely covers his thighs.

Does anyone happen to know the price of the ponchos you can buy at the parks? I'm sure they are quite a bit more expensive than the $ Store finds, but they are cute!

Well I guess there has to be one in every crowd :( ....

We took pancho's on our last trip. Put them on once but they were SO hot we immediately went in and bought the small mickey mouse umbrella's. Imagine that it's 95+ outside and your wearing a sheet of plastic around your body :( :( These are small enough to fit in the pocket of our cargo shorts so carrying them was no prob.

(We were very careful not to poke anyone-remember the park will clear out durring a rain storm)

My vote is for the umbrellas

That is what we do.

We keep about a dozen in our Disney Box.
