Hi all! Me and my mom are planning a trip in OCT. 2014, as a graduation/18th birthday present:hyper:. We need to save somewhere near 3,000! We are putting aside 100 every month until then. That will leave us at about 2,000. I am putting money aside too, as much as I can but still have enough for gas for my car and what not! haha :goodvibes Anyway! We also have a dog who has a very bad back, it has been acting up lately:worried: So, if she needs to go to the vet it will set us back a lot! It will be our only chance to go, so it's kinda then or hope for a tiny chance sometime. We are doing a couple yard sales too, to try and save some money for Disney. So, I'll get to the point now! Do any of you have some money saving ideas, tips ,or trips when you're trying to save for Disney? Any help would be great!

There are only two ways to add to your savings. You can either increase the amount of money you bring in or reduce the amount that goes out.

Increase your income by:
  • Getting a part-time job.
  • Selling your extra stuff on ebay, craigslist, garage sale or flea market.
  • Selling your used electronics on Gazelle.com
  • Create items for sale at craft sales or etsy.
  • Asking people to contribute to your Disney Fund instead of buying you gifts for holidays, birthdays and graduation.

Decrease your spending by:
  • Cutting back on your entertainment costs (movies, eating out, etc.)
  • Combining errands so that you use less gas.
  • Walking, carpooling or taking public transportation.
  • Find ways to re-purpose what you have instead of buying new.

Of course there are other ways, but they involve reducing the bills that the adult in the house usually covers.

This trip sounds great! Whatever happens - go - because life is short. Here's a few tips for mom to do - now is the time to save on insurance by raising your deductible. Next contact your cell phone, land line, cable company - ask to speak to the retention dept. and tell them you are thinking of switching - what can they do for you? I just dealt with AT& T and Comcast this week and did that - DH always pushes me into dealing with it - because "you are so much better at it than I am" Ha! Next, discover your local library for some of your entertainment. I don't think you get much doing garage sales or God forbid Craigs list (way too many crazies out there). Really sit down with your mom and look at where your money goes - track for a week or two - see what can be cut back on. Goodness knows you have to take good care of your dog - be proactive in taking him/her in if you start to see signs the back is causing a problem - see what treatments are available - many meds can be purchased for a lower cost through internet pet firms and my vet is always happy to fax in a presciption (the co. like PetsRX will contact your vet - then the vet faxes the script). Look for coupons for your movies, pizzas, etc... I think most of us can find numerous ways to cut back a bit and it does add up. When you are ready to actually plan thet trip - the Dis boards are a great place to figure out how to get the most out of your money! The memories you and your mom have of this vacation will be priceless and well worth cutting back on little things.

Visit Kristin at couponintodisney. she has lots of ideas on how to save money for a disney trip!!!!

I would look at your grocery budget, I was able to cut mine in half using coupons, and we have more food now than ever before. You could help your mom by visiting coupon sites that have match ups - they list the sales and tell you which coupon to use, it is very easy.

best place to get doggy medicine is costco, and you don't have to be a member to use the pharmacy!

lots of people save their change or save every $5 bill they get.

Yay! Thank you so much:) all our saving should be enough, we want to make sure we are prepared for vet bills too!

I found the best way to save on groceries is to stay out of the store! Seriously, I would stop 3 out of 5 days on the way home to get something for dinner. Those trips added up fast. Now I have been really good about planning a weekly menu, making a list, organizing coupons, and shopping for groceries once a week. I also started in January writing down on a calendar every dollar we spent. This helps me really see where the money goes and where I can cut back.

Depends on how you shop - I actually find that I do better going to the grocery store almost every day, ONLY buying what I need for dinner. I do a trip to the store on Sundays to get stuff for breakfast and lunches during the week, and then I stop on the way home from work to get ONLY what I need for dinner. This keeps me from stocking up on stuff I might not use/actually need. You have to be very disciplined to shop this way and be able to stop yourself from impulse buying each time you go to the store!

I think the key is to stick to a list no matter how many times a week you shop. Good luck!!
