UGH...so driving in to work this AM I got a rock to the windshield of my 2 mos. old Saab
I called a widow repair place, and they came out and told me the "nick" can't be filled with resin since it's just on the surface, and not a true crack (the ding is about the size of 2 pin-heads, small, but it's a new car)

He told me if I clean and wash it down a few times, it should lessen the appearance of it. Does anyone know if they make anything that I can put on it to help?

If you have glass coverage on your insurance you should give them a call about it. We had a rock hit our windshield and DH called the insurance company... if we agreed to have it repaired instead of replaced, they did the repair for free. They sent someone out who did the resin thing. The resin thing will also keep it from further cracking from that spot. You can still see the spot a little on ours, but it took a pretty good chip out of it...definitely much better than before the repair. I bet you wouldn't be able to see a small repair at all.

If you are leasing the vehicle make sure they allow the windshield to be repaired. My friend had his repaird, but when he turned the leased car in, they nailed him on it. Had to pay to get a new windshield installed....

The lease company claimed that a repaired windshield is not safe because it is weaker now & if the air bag deployed it may cause injury...

If you have comprehensive insurance a your new car. Then file the claim and have it replaced.

USUALLY windshield replacement IS FREE!:D

I am the queen of rocks hitting windshields. I have traded in two cars with cracked windshields, have replaced two windshields and have had one repaired (a few weeks ago). I just have terrible luck!

Sounds like there is really nothing that can be done to repair the windshield, the nicks are just too small. If they grow, have the glass company check them again, they may be able to fill the cracks with the resin later. I doubt they will grow.

If you have comprehensive insurance, they will reimburse you if you have the windshield repaired, instead of having it replaced. I just got a check the other day for $65 (one rock made two dings). I thought the resin would make it look like there was never a ding, but you can still see them, they just won't expand.

Cracks in the windshield can expand, especially if it is cold out.

The insurance company will not pay to replace the windshield unless the crack is longer thana dollar bill, if it is not, they will reimburse you to have it repaired.

In our state, a crack in the path of the driver's side windshield will cause the vehicle to fail inspection.

This happened to our Volvo last year. I got a tiny nick, about the size of the tip of a ball point pen. Insurance paid for the REPAIR, but not for replacement.

Yes, it's probably a bit larger than the tip of a pen, maybe like the size of this (+) but it's not all of the way through the glass.

It's just my brand new car and i'm so sad. Oh well.
These things happen.

I had that happen once and insurance covered the replacement...but it had broken the "skin" per se of the windshield. What was kinda neat I guess is that they came to where I worked and replaced it in the parking lot. I had to drop a key off with the glass company...but I didn't really have to waste too much time with it. I just had to back in to the parking space. Came out after work with the key and receipt in the glove compartment doors locke dwith a new windshield.

I had this happen several years ago. I had the choice of getting it repaired free, or replacing it by paying the deductable. I got it fixed. The company is Novus Glass. I believe that they are nationwide, but not sure. This is who the insurance company deals with. They did a good job. Not sure if there has to be a crack or if they can just fill in a nick.
