Help regarding headaches --Update #20

My DH used to get cluster headaches and spring and fall were the times when he got them. In each season, there would be a period of about six weeks where he would get them and then they would go away until the next season. They would start slowly and build up until about the third week, when he would have them several times a day for several days in a row. If your husband does have cluster headaches, he could be in the worst of it right now and things will start getting better.

Well, DH got home from the ER around 11:30. They did a CAT scan on him, all was fine. Basically they told him that he was having a "cluster headache" and sent him home with percocet, which did help.

I read up on cluster headaches yesterday, they tend to come for a short time, go away, come back, etc. His never let up from Sun - Wed. I don't know, I'm not a Dr. and the headache was going away when we went to bed. He leaves for work at 5:30 a.m. so I haven't had a chance to talk to him today.

Good! He's all checked out and things look fine.. (Although from what I understand, cluster headaches can be absolutely horrible!! Poor guy..)

Should anything change though, don't hestitat to bring him to the ER again..

I'm glad his CAT came back fine. For them to diagnose him with cluster headaches when there's been no break in the pain for him is a little bit odd. It sounds more like a tension headache or something similar as I find THOSE go on FOR-EV-ER sometimes.

They likely didn't order an MRI as they're expensive and many hospitals only run those types of labs during "business hours". To be safe he should probably see if he can get one of those done too at some point in the not-too-distant future.

I will say this. The best thing I ever did, if for nothing but peace of mind, was see a neurologist. In addition to being informed that there's nothing wrong with my brain (personality not withstanding LOL), he also gave me the rundown on what to expect in terms of future headaches, how you can experience permanent "side effects" (i.e. light sensitivity) even when you don't have a migraine and what some triggers are. Not sure what your insurance info is but if he doesn't need a referral, maybe when y'all get back he'll be more willing to explore this option, especially if he's still suffering.

My DH had a horible headache that coincided with getting hit in the head at work. After a few days he went to the doctor, who sent him for an MRI. Everything came back fine but he still had a headache.

A few days later, he went to the dentist for a normal checkup and it turned out his wisdom tooth was pushing up big time and had to be taken out. That's what was causing the headaches, and as soon as the tooth was out, the pain went away! I asked him if his tooth had been bothering him, and he said it had a little bit but the headache was so bad that he wasn't paying attention to the tooth and gum pain.
