OKAY I THINK THAT I HAVE EVERYTHING SET. JUST A COUPLE OF LITTLE THINGS LEFT TO DECIDE. I WANT TO KNOW WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO STOP TO GET SNACKS FOR THE ROOM AT A GOOD PRICE. WE WILL HAVE A CAR SO THATS NOT A WORRY. I ALREADY HAVE MICROWAVE POPCORN I GOT AT A GOOD DEAL AT WALMART BOX OF 15 FOR 2.50. WE ARE STAYING 10 NIGHTS SO THIS WILL SAVE ALOT OF MONEY. WE WERE THERE BACK IN 99 AND WAS NEW TO THE DISNEY LIFE. SO THAT MEANS THAT I NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THE BOARDS AND ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS OF SAVING MONEY WE SPEND ALOT $$$$. THIS YEAR WE SAVED SO MUCH THAT IT JUST AMAZES ME. SO I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL YOUR ANSWERS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. THE KIDS DONT EVEN KNOW WE ARE WAKING THEM UP THAT MORNING AND TELLING THEM THE GREAT NEWS. ANOTHER IDEA FROM THE BROADS.
DISNEY HERE WE COME.

I can't help you. I am terrible with geography - but I am bumping this up in hopes that someone else can answer this for you. :)

Come on guys I need your kind words of advice. I need a good spot to pick up some things for a good price. I also mentioned before that I bought popcorn and my DH says I cant pack it in the luggage. I think this is not true.

I can't think of any reason that popcorn in the luggage would be a problem. Many people even bring a collapsible suitcase just for food and use it for souveniers on the way home. Also you can pre-ship care packages to yourself at your hotel if you are determined.

I think it would be hard for anyone to answer your question about local stores because you don't say where you are staying. There are many threads about groceries on the boards which you can check. Also you can ask the desk clerk at your hotel for advice on this. If you really want to enjoy your trip, try to minimize the time you spend running around Orlando looking for cheap snacks. Bring what you can with you, like your popcorn. Buy some perishables like juice/bread, etc at a store reccommended by the hotel desk, and enjoy your vacation. ;)

I've read that no food is supposed to be packed inside luggage. If the smell of food draws the attention of the security dogs that sniff the luggage for drugs and weapons, they will have to manually search that luggage. This slows everyone down. Can't verify this for you, but it's what I've read.

As for a place to stop... there are plenty of regular grocery stores in the region... Publix, Super WalMart, Kash & Karry, Shop Rite. Do a search of these forums for Publix, if you can, and you'll find directions. For starters, there's a Publix at the corner of 192 (Irlo Bronson) and Poinciana Blvd. Mapquest may show you an easy way to get there from your route from the airport. There's another Publix on Int'l Drive (near Wet N Wild) and another near Orange Lake Country Club on 192, a couple miles west of Disney. Also, there are a couple of local groceries in the Sand Lake area, just off Int'l Drive. Any of these would be fine for getting snacks.

Just avoid the Goodings near DD, unless you are only getting one or two items... very expensive, may as well stop at any gas station convenience mart. HTH.

Walgreens Drug store is always a good place for quick snacks. they always have their ads available at the front entrance with great coupons. example, last week: 20oz bottles of sprite or sprite remix 3/$1.00, russell stover bags of candy 2/$3.00 their little pints of icecream buy 1 get 1 free & on & on......
most of the time the candy bars are 2/$1.00 & gatorade seems to be on sale almost every week
there are several Walgreens in Orlando 1 off of Hwy 192 a hop skip & a jump from old town (between old town & I4, right next to the publix mentioned above) & the other one I know is in front of the fairfield inn & suites on vineland rd by the twin raddissons

Are you taking the food items with you before you go or are you buying in FLA? Driving or flying? How old are the kids? Believe me....what's a "good" snack for an 8 yr old is "kiddie food" to a 13 yr old (can you guess the age difference in my kids! ;) )

Before we left last year, I had all the food packed, but of course, since we camp at FW, my situation is a bit different. I can bring everything PLUS the kitchen sink! :jester: Seriously, I would stop at BJ's or Sams to get munchies....you can get them all individually wrapped (like packs of cookies) or have the option to get a big container and split them yourself. If your kids are younger, you can get a big container of animal crackers. I would watch for melting though. Fruit snacks are a good choice, or those fruit by the foot ones....they are "acceptable" to older kids as well!! :)

I think if you give more information, you'll be amazed at the amount of responses! :p

Super Wal-Mart is on HWY 192. There is also a Sam's club. around the airport area.

Thank you guys for all your responses. Sorry for the little info. We are staing at ASMO and it two kids DS5 and DD11.
