I am worried about traveling with my dress on the plane... Has anyone had any trouble getting it through security? I was wondering when you go through security do they make you put it on the belt for xray or do they just open it up and search it? I'm just afraid of it getting caught in that machine or something.

DD carried her dress on the plane in a David's Bridal bag - it went thru the metal detector on the belt with no problem - and it went into the overhead bin with no problem. We were traveling with 29 other people so having to share the bin with other passengers was not really a problem because we filled quite a few rows and our party pretty much left her alone when it came to the overhead bin LOL. I would caution, however, that this took place several years ago and the world is a different place so I don't know if it would go as smoothly now.

Don't worry about wrinking the dress - just call Carolyn Allen's and they will come to your room to steam/press it. They did hers (and mine and her MIL's and some of the bridesmaids' dresses) and did a wonderful job - not too expensive as I recall.

Good luck!!!!!!!

I've just bought a mini suitcase - the kind the cabin crew use on wheels? My dressmaker reckons I'll get my dress in it and I can then take it on as hand luggage and guard it with my life...

I don't need to worry about creases too much as the skirt is already crinkled as part of the design... I'm just not sure how my huge puffball of a dress is gonna fit in that idy bidy case...

We are flying to WDW VR in December, but I'm Fed Exing my dress to Carolyn Allen's two weeks prior to our event. This way if there are any problems, I can hopefully resolve before my ceremony. They will hold it for 2 weeks and deliver to WDW and also steam it. I decided to Fed Ex because I've never had problems with them and I know it will be there. Just my opinion.

On the way to the wedding we bought my dress a seat on the plane. It went through the security screening no problem (it had to go on the belt and get x-rayed). We flew Jetblue, so the extra seat was cheap, and it was worth the piece of mind to me to have my dress next to me. My dress was all lace, and I was very worried about the lace being damaged. On the way home, I just folded the dress in half and shoved it in the overhead (oh what a difference a week makes ;)). It traveled fine that way. The flight attendants and DH made sure that no one tried to cram stuff on top of my dress bag.

We bought a seat for my dress as well. My mom had called the FAA to see if the dress had to go through the metal detector belt, she was told that you can ask to have the dress scanned by hand by a supervisor. Well, we got to the airport at 4:30am and the workers had obviously not slept!!! they told me there was no supervisor available and took the dress and jammed it on the belt. I started to argue with the lady and she called me bridezilla (which amost made me cry because i was so happy leaving for the wedding) ~ long story short, you should be able to ask, but only if you get a nice person! besides that, it was worth having a seat for the dress. :flower:

What a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE lady!!! That makes me so mad to hear that!! Grrrrr at people!!

We had my dress in a garment bag that went down the belt with no problem and fit in hte overhead bin with no problem either.

My dress fit, carefully folded into a large hard-sided samsonite bag. All the accessories went with it. I was worried it would get lost, but figured we had a few days before the wedding and I'd raise h@!$ with the airlines to get it there on time if it got rerouted. Luckily it was a direct flight,so not to much chance of getting lost.

However, I think shipping it to Carolyn Allens is a good idea too. They are great. We used them for all our tuxes. Very reliable and friendly.

I am just going to try to put mine in an overhead bin... but I'm not too stressed about it getting wrinkled, since I'm going to have it steamed by Carolyn Allen's before the wedding.

My dress was in a garmet bag, we flew down on a Delta plane and the flight attendants let me put it into a closet (check with your airline about availability), they also let us board early. Coming home we were on a Song plane and no closet but the attendants put it into the storage area that holds the blankets, pillows and their personal belongings.

The dress did go through x-ray and we had no problems at all and everyone was very nice.

That's awful!!! Why are some people so nasty?? Maybe she was just jealous that you were jetting off to Disney for a fairy tale wedding... :goodvibes

I folded my dress and put it in the largest carry-on suitcase I could find. I was having it steamed by Carolyn Allens so I wasn't too worried about it getting wrinkled. It went on the belt through security without a problem, but the guy got a laugh out of watching me nervously wait for the dress to come out. Despite being folded up in the suitcase, my dress was not very wrinkled by the time I got to the hotel.
