Help - Prices in school holidays

Where I work everyone wants the same time off for school holidays, either going away on holiday or child care. My boss pulls rank and takes over three weeks right bang in the middle of the summer holidays which leaves it impossible to go anywhere for two weeks either side. We are not allowed more than a few days off at Xmas or Easter. We even argue over half term. We always take our DD out of school for a week with half term week.

We are lucky enough to be able to afford to go in the school holidays as we both have well paying jobs (neither of us a had a good education, DH never went to school much after the age of 14 and he now owns the company!). My problem is getting the time off work at the right time!

I am now a DVC member with 520 points but cannot get time off when I need it to be able to use the points!!! I am just looking forward to my DD leaving school!

I feel that school holidays are old fashioned and does not keep up with the times. There must be someway to stagger the holidays?

i've been reading this thread with interest, as i am starting work as a TA in a school from September. I as many others have always gone out of season & got some great deals & now i find myself scouring the pages of travel brochures trying to find a bargain in school holls & its pretty imposible!!
I dont fancy going in July/August due to the heat & i dont want to go for a week, which leaves us Easter or Christmas.
I wont be able to go a few days before holls start either!!
Someone should start up their own travel agency for people who have to travel in school holls & make it at the very least reasonably priced - they would make a fortune even with a small profit, & it might get the other tour operaters to 'get there act together'
I've heard many times that these rip off prices are going to be investigated & then you never hear of any follow up - conspiracy or bribe comes to mind!!!
At least i had already booked 2006 before i got the job - 3 weeks (one a week in September school holls) £2300 for 2 adults & one teen
