Our insurance is taking a dive starting January 1 so I'm trying to switch to generics where possible. Does anyone use Trinessa for birth control--any side effects/problems? I'm currently on one that has no generic--figures!

Does your insurance plan offer some sort of mail order plan? I know that I can get a med that my daughter regularly takes thru BC/BS mail order pharmacy in a 90 day supply and only pay 2 months of co-payments. Would such a strategy help you?

I'm on Trinessa. I only get it because it's one of my cheapest options on my health insurance (I only pay $9 a month for BC). I don't like it and wish I could get a low hormone option on my health insurance plan (which I can't as I have a bare bones insurance policy as my employer doesn't offer health insurance). When I was last at my doctor's office he asked me if I was having any issues with Trinessa and told me that most people find their emotions almost uncontrollable during the 3rd week (the highest amount of hormones are in the pills on that week). I wouldn't say mine are uncontrollable but I DEFINITELY feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat during that week . I also find I feel nauseous from 1-4 hours every day after taking it (just like a queazy feeling, not so bad that I feel like I'm actually going to throw up). There was recently an article in the local paper talking about the side effects of Trinessa. I take it because it's the only reasonably priced BC I'm offered and a little queaziness and crying is better than taking care of a baby I can't afford! ;)

I have been on Trinessa for YEARS AND YEARS!!! (At least 10 ;))

I have had absolutely no weight gain, mood swings, or any adverse reactions to this pill.

Thanks for the comments everyone. My issue is that no portion of my prescriptions will be covered until our family deductible (of 5K is reached :scared1: ) and then I'll still be paying 20%. So even though I'd save a little with a mail order, it wouldn't be enough to stay on my current pill.

Call your local planned parenthood.

Years ago, when I feared getting pregnant a friend of mine told me about the discounted birth control at planned parenthood. The cash price of my birth control was less than the cost at the pharmacy with my insurance. When I was laughing at check out the clerk asked me why I was laughing I told her that this is cheaper than using my insurance. She then asked for my insurance card, and had me fill out a form. I didn't realize planned parenthood took insurance--with my insurance card I ended up with brand name birth control for less than $50 a year.

I don't know if that is still the case, since I have not needed it in more than 5 years; however it is worth a phone call.

Just wanted to say also that I also pay for a dental plan ($100 a year) that I got through dentalplans.com that I get discounted dental work with and also 40-60% off eye exams/contact lenses/glasses and a discount at pharmacy's on prescriptions. Before I had my current insurance plan (with Anthem) I used the dental plan to get my BC and it was $9 a month through them too (I did have to switch to a participating pharmacy but they had many to choose from including Kroger's pharmacy right by my house). Just an idea if you find your BC cost is getting out of hand. I was paying $35 a month for Trinessa BC without the dental plan so it ended up paying for itself after a few months (not to mention the discounts on dental work [I paid $120 to get 4 cavities filled] and eye stuff).

It is! Well, at least it is here. I went through them a couple of years ago when I didn't have health insurance. They don't offer all BC though-I don't think Yaz is offered.

Our insurance company covers Trinessa as the generic BC pill and I've been using it for a number of years now. I have never had any side effects such as weight gain, and it has worked well. I believe that I too paid $9 a month, so it is a small price to pay for BC IMO.
