Help Please!!

We are going to WL April 6-11, on a regular code. We are considering going to WDW again in December 2005. I am contemplating upgrading my 4 day park hopper pass to an AP since we will be spending about 4-5 days in December if we go and I would love to get the room discount. Does anyone know if I can get the AP rates for my April stay if I upgrade the 4 day pass? Where can I upgrade my current ticket? Do I have to do it before we go to check-in?
