So, I have a Nikon d90 camera. I've had it for around 5 years or so. It was dropped and the little ring (sorry.....no, I am not a expert on these cameras but I have loved mine.....until now)... We replaced the ring (I think it is the mounting ring but not sure). My husband did it. (hate to say it but looking on it may not have been the best decision). So, I've had an AF-S Nikkor 55-200 lens on it which I've loved. However, I noticed some specks showing upon on my pics, so I go to remove the lens. The lens will not come off!!! And I know how to do it.

Don't know what to do. I know it will cost an arm and a leg to send it in for repairs. There is no one I can find locally that could work on it, so far.

Can anyone help? And if my only other option is to keep this lens on here the way it is, keep the camera, and get another camera, what is the best one out there right now for the money? I may give this to one of my kids since it is still operable but I want one where I can change lenses.

Also, I noticed it didn't seem to be working right after we put the lens back on but it still works ok...just has the specks showing up, which I removed when editing. Not letting me autofocus though. Uggh...anyone??? I went to the web but then thought you guys are very knowledgeable so decided I would ask you all.

Thank you!!

If it is spots on the sensor which got on there with the repairs which sounds possible it's going to be impossible to remove them without taking the lens off. Unless they shake off with the auto cleaner vibrator thingy, check you have that turned on. The only other thing I can think of, is use a faster shutter speed and/or a lower ISO speed to have a wider f-stop as the dust spots are sharper with a stopped down camera. You might want to avoid things like sky shots as they really show up the spots.

And my advice for a new camera check out a mirrorless system with a full CMOS sensor. I have a Samsung NX and I love it's quality of photo and most of all it's light weight.

Cheers Larry.

You'd need to post a picture with the specs on them for anyone to really determine what the cause might be.

If the lens is stuck on there and won't auto focus then I'd look at repair or replacement. The problems could be the lens or the body... without the camera in hand it's difficult to tell. If you choose to repair sending it in to Nikon is probably your safest bet. But considering the D90's street value for the body only is like $300 you could probably replace with the same model used body for less than a repair, if the problem is with the body. The 55-250 lens will almost certainly be cheaper to replace rather than repair. As far as what to replace it with if you decide to go new, it really depends on what you want out of a body.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'm just going to be purchasing a new camera. I'll keep this one as a back up I guess. Ugh! Or may just try and sell it like it is on eBay.

I use it mostly for eBay but after I got it I fell in love with photography so I really want a nice one with a great lens. Something not too complicated though. So, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'll take a look at the mirror less one. Thanks!!
