Help Please! Disneyland Universal Questions

We're looking at visiting in September. The kids are finally old enough that I'd like to visit Universal also. We like to stay at the GC at Disneyland, because of how close and easy it is to walk to DL and CA parks. Does Universal have a similar hotel (near by - walk to entrance)? Should we book different hotels, one at DL and the other at Universal, or should we just stay at DL and travel to Universal and back? Is Universal a multi-day park, or can it be done in a single day?

Lots of question, but any advice, or assistance is greatly appreciated.

My wife and I did a Universal trip on our honeymoon 10 years ago. Just stay on property. Universal here can easily be done in a day. I think we lucked out and LA traffic wasn't that bad that day.

I don't think you'll want/need more than one day at Universal. You might want to consider taking a shuttle or the metro up there rather than dealing with the nightmare that can be LA traffic. Universal's transportation page has more information.

We haave stayed at the GCH and driven to USH numerous time. Times do vary. 1 day will do it.

We drove there from our Anaheim hotel and then back when we visited there. It was the week of the fire a few years ago that they had. I was quite disappointed in the place, I'd say it was half a days worth for us. lol I don't know, maybe DL just has me spoiled. :)

Universal can certainly be done in one day and return to Anaheim.

If you wanna stay there, Universal Sheraton is right across the main entrance and a super short walk.

Staying may a good idea if you don't wanna wear yourself out traveling back and forth with all day at the park. Universal Citywalk is also a pretty cool place to hang out in the evening...kinda like a hipper Downtown Disney but more entertainment themed.

Was this your first time visiting Universal Hollywood? I would give it another try then decide if it's right for you or not. The new Kong 3D experience is very very cool and that alone is worth another visit.

I too agree this can be done in a day and no need to book another hotel - but traffic may get you. Besides, that surrounding Universal area is a little scary! Just show up early because they often close early and you'll get everything done. And if you are a Universal Orlando regular, Hollywood is very different.

We stay at GCH and buy APs for both DL and Universal. We buy Deluxe and go to Universal on Sat when we are blacked out at DL. You can definitely do it in a day so no need to pack and unpack again. Btw the tour is great and yes the King Kong 3-D is way cool! We also love the Mummy and Jurassic Park.
