Our youngest is now old enough that we won’t need any bags or strollers yay!
My summer shorts don’t have pockets and in case I’m not near my husband, I need something to carry my phone. The only things I need to carry are my phone and a chapstick.
What does everyone use? I have a lulu crossbody satchel but don’t even want that on me in the august heat.
What does everyone use that’s the most minimal? My husband can carry my chapstick if needed.

I don’t think there will be many options if you don’t want something like a crossbody on you. Would you be ok with a fanny pack? They also sell running belts to carry stuff while you are running. I have one that just goes across my waist like a belt and has a little pouch that fits my phone. Since it is just like a belt, I don’t even notice it. I also tend to wear athleta running shorts when it is a million degrees. They are cool and have the pocket for the phone.

I think you are forgetting to carry at least an ID and some cash. More than once I have wanted a drink or snack, and the kiosks were only taking cash due to computer issues. And you need to have an ID on you at all times. Especially if you end up not near your husband, and something bad happens. I get not wanting a bag on you in the heat, but at least a small fanny pack/sling.

I think you need to either buy new shorts with good pockets, or wear a small bag.

We will have one card that my daughters make a wish organization is giving us that I’m going to have my husband carry.
I might just use my crossbody as a fanny pack. That way I won’t really feel it on my shoulders.

I think I’m going to use my cross body bag as a fanny pack. Good idea

Agreed. I always carry ID and insurance cards. On our last trip while in MK. My husband did not feel well, and first aid ended up calling an ambulance for a trip to the hospital. We were lucky and were able to return to our hotel after about 5 hours with prescription and a promise to see his doctor when we returned back home. So, you never know. Also, cash is a definite yes. Also, Disney paid for the ambulance to the hospital along with a voucher to pay for Uber to return to the hotel. We jokingly call these the new Magical Express as it was no charge. 🚑

So glad he is better! It too, always carry our insurance cards as things happen.

Apparently fanny packs are in style again. We all had a collection back in the day, but I sent them all to goodwill eons ago LOL. I wear a crossbody these days.

Here is my no bag option. I used this on my June trip to WDW followed by a cruise. I tend to use this 90% of the time in my life. I carry my ID and a CC, sometimes my medical card, and usually a $20 bill or some $1’s. I update what is in the back case based on what I am doing.

If one can't handle something as simple as a fanny pack then buy some clothes with pockets. Fashion might be important if you are walking the streets of Paris, but you are in a theme park and contrary to popular beliefs no one is looking at you and certainly not judging.

One cannot survive in WDW without a phone, ID, cash and a credit card. It is hot and people sweat, it is not a place where it is easy to pull off vanity.

I would add that I can't survive the day without my phone charger and/or some charging blocks. And depending on the time of year I need some layers of clothing (or since she's going in August, a poncho) that I need to carry in my bag. I just couldn't go completely bagless.

I understand and a fanny pack is a bag. It just fastens around the waist leaving one's hand free. You don't have to find a place to put it, it's always there and if done right is never in the way. In more recent years I found the everything I needed I could carry in my pockets, but I understand that it depends on the degree of maintenance one requires. A few years back, I spent a month in Europe and had a small backpack that allowed me to carry an umbrella, light jacket plus some miscellaneous items while hitting all the tourist spots. It was in the fall when it was cooler so it worked well, but in Florida that item on my back just made me feel to hot. BTW, when I made the trip to Europe I discovered the joy of a money belt. A place for important papers, like a Passport, extra cash and CC's. Always on me and hidden under loose clothing.

DD got a sock zip wallet for Prom. She liked it. She tucked her ID and money in it and carried her phone.

I always go bag free with pockets in shorts/capris/pants because I love how easy it is to go through security and I always end up carrying someone’s drink and/or souvenirs.

In recent years I've tried to be as minimal as possible but I've found having a small crossbody is still usually the best option to carry what I want without feeling too overwhelmed with it.

A few Augusts ago I used a "stash bandz" and loved it with a couple exceptions. It definitely made the top of my shorts and underwear more sweaty, I hated having to pull it up when going to the bathroom, and I could not carry chapstick as it just melted.
I will say it made me feel very free though and I didn't feel like I had any extra weight on me as it was distributed around my hips and fit snug but was stretchy when I sat on a ride. Plus I didn't have to take it off.

I just bought a Vera Bradley performance twill small crossbody that is similar to the mini hipster but better in my opinion.
I am considering bringing that this August.

If you truly want to be minimal what I would do is get a phone case that has the little wallet on the back so you can keep your own ID/CC and some cash. Plus these cases usually have a little zip compartment for change that you can likely fit your chapstick in.
Then get a phone lanyard strap.
This is what I would do if I truly only wanted my phone and chapstick.
Personally though I need a few other things like a couple of throw away ponchos (Its August so chances are unless its like last August its going to rain daily), Advil, etc.

Fellow minimalist here - I have a fanny pack from Baboon to the Moon - I alternate between wearing it as a sling on my back and around my waist. One of the best travel purchases I’ve made - so many compartments and lightweight (just returned from 10 days in WDW). It easily fit my phone, thin wallet, keys, hand sanitizer, cooling towel, sunglasses, sunscreen stick, poncho, even a snack or two.

They also sell a Fanny pack mini. They’ll often have sales on colors that are being retired if the price point is too high.

Invest in pocket shorts.
This is more difficult for women than for men because the clothing manufacturers refuse to put reasonably sized pockets on women’s clothes. I have a small bifold wallet I use when traveling and it won’t fit in the pockets. My phone definitely doesn’t fit in the pockets. About the only thing that will fit in the pockets is a house key or car fob. It’s so annoying, especially when I am specifically looking for the largest pockets I can find.

When I go to Disney, I take two or three different sized bags, and carry the smallest I can based on what I need that day. If it’s sunny and I just need my wallet, phone, and a few hand wipes, I have a very small crossbody that just fits those items. If I need to add a poncho to the mix, I have a slightly larger crossbody. If I need the poncho, and umbrella, and either my DSLR or a lot of backup phone charging stuff, I have a larger crossbody. Having the different options makes it easier on a day to day basis in the parks, and I can wear the crossbody bags as a waist bag if I don’t want the pressure on my shoulders.
