Our daughter just started on new medication that needs to be kept cool at all times. Will gel packs be ok for this? What do I need for TSA. I am wondering what I will need for DCL in case the cooler is not cool enough. We are leaving sat and I am starting to worry.

I used frozen gel packs, the kind they sell for lunchbags, and put 2 in an insulated bag. Artic Zone, I think.
It was fine for TSA.

Which ship are you sailing on? The Dream & Fantasy have true refrigerators. The Magic & Wonder have 'coolers' that would keep a drink cool but not cold enough for a week of meds that need refrigeration.

If you're sailing on the Magic/Wonder, just ask your stateroom host for a true fridge. Or if you don't get to meet him/her shortly after your cabin is ready (1:30pm ish) call guest services to request one.

Are you flying down the same day as debarkation? or flying in advance? It worked out great that we were staying 2 nts pre cruise at BWV and had a full size fridge/freezer so I could re-freeze the gel packs after our flight and they were plenty frozen again for our ride to the port.

I would bring some extra ziploc bags too just in case you're not able to refreeze your gelpacks then you could always refil the ziplocs with ice.

I only brought as much as I would need for the trip with none extra, not very smart but I didn't want to have to worry about how to bring leftovers home post cruise.

Frozen gel packs are not allowed for food, but are allowed if needed to keep medicine cold. You should make the TSA screener aware that you have the gel packs in your cooler and follow their instructions for getting it through security.

We were on the Magic in April and while we had the beverage cooler, it was actually pretty cold. It took a while for a 12 pack of cans and several bottles of water to get cold, but once they got cold, it was as cold as a fridge.

Can you call the Dr office and explain the situation to see if there is an alternative that doesn't have to be kept cold?

I have been in this situation in the past, I got the RX and never even thought about an upcoing trip until later that day. I was able to call and get something else that was easier to travel with.
