Help! Need to cancel reservation

We were due to check into the Boardwalk this Sunday and something has come up and we need to cancel this reservation. What are my options? Is the option still available for a "once in a lifetime" cancellation to get all the points back? What do you tell Member Services in order to use this option?

The points can be placed into a holding account that must be used by the end of the current Use Year. You can use this account to make reservations 60 days in advance.

You can discuss your situation with MS and inquire about a special exception to restore your points. It might be possible.

I hestitate to tell you what to say. It is best for everyone if you are just honest about the reason for your cancellation. Disney has been very understanding in dire circumstances. No reflection on you, just a general feeling that we shouldn't share what those circumstances have been since some people might bend the truth or make up stories to try and get the same consideration.

I've never heard of a "once in a lifetime cancellation" policy - they do have a once in a lifetime banking exception, but unless the circumstances are very unusual, it's likely that the points will go into holding.

The good news is that things are somewhat more flexible with your options when points are in holding than they used to be in the past.
