We were planing on taking the 7 day cruise (cash) followed by 6 nites at SSR in late August. I was traveling alone with a 12 and a 13 year old. We were EXCITED and have our plane tickets. Today I called to add a baby to the cruise, as we just found out we will adopting a baby in the very near future. There is NO ROOM on the cruise. I am wailisted for a larger cabin, but no guarantees. So, I need to find something else to do that week. I won't have enough points to cover the whole week, just part of it. What I need are suggestions of a good place to stay with kids, maybe with a great pool, activites, etc. I'm in California and not very familiar with WDW yet. THANKS!!!

Boy, there is a multitude of things you could do. I hope your cruise comes through cause that's what I'd pick since you'll have the next week at WDW! But, I'll list a few and I"m sure others will add to it(and I would say since you have 7 days you might even do a mix of any of the below and enjoy them, but with a baby you may not want to be switching resorts a whole lot):

Have you thought of renting points from another DVC member? You could just transfer them into your acct. and reserve where you want. Since you're staying at SSR the next week, maybe try BWV or BCV the week before to get a feel of that area..or....

You could try out a different resort paying cash....any of the WDW resorts are great. Animal Kingdom Lodge comes to mind as one of our favorites to add a night or two to our DVC stays....or

You could stay at one of Universal's properties and use the Front of the Line access to visit their parks for a few days.

That's all I can think of now...like I said, I'm sure others will have even better ideas!

Enjoy~ and CONGRATULATIONS on the new baby!

Congratulations on the new baby! Both my babies are adopted, and they are now 27 and 24, and every time I hear of someone adopting I get a visual image of how they looked when I held them for the first time, and the emotional rush! What an exciting ride you are in for!:p

Since you have a new baby, you will probably need to be near the parks, and the parks have to be teen-friendly places. That would mean MGM and Epcot. I would go to BWV because both parks are within walking distance, so you can get back to your room fast in case you need to with your baby. If you don't rent points from a member, consider getting an annual passport, which gives you nearly 1/2 off on rooms and villas. This summer villa studios are $169, and a place like AKL is $145 or less.

Remember to take lots of nap/swim breaks, so the baby isn't screaming from too much stimulus. That's hard on you, your other kids, and fellow vacationers.:earsgirl:

Thanks, and PLEASE keep the suggestions coming!!! I'm new to DVC so still confued about renting and all, but will figure it all out. Staying at another resort for a week wouldn't be so bad after all. I'd like to find the place most condusive to just hanging out. We'd have enough time to relax AND see everything!!

I bet you the cruise will come through. We were supposed to take the cruise in March, but due to financial and health reasons of a family member we decided to do HH instead. We had up until 3 months before the cruise to get our full deposit back, and that is what we did. Since your cruise is more than 3 months out, I bet there will be some cancellations. Hope it all works out, and congratulations on the addition of your new family member!
