Dh and I are thinking about going to WDW for our anniversary (1 night- next Saturday)-
which would you do?

stay at a mod (like CSR)- hang out at resort, swim, go to DTD, dinner at Ohana, sleep in, go out to a nice breakfast.
OR

stay someplace cheaper and go to Epcot for the day (we can get there by opening), buy 1 day tickets and stay all day (we have never gotten to enjoy it -we have a 5yo-nuff said. Is that the last day of TOD (March1)? Weather would affect our plans if we choose to do this instead.

I would like to do #2,
-but if it rains....
I'm afraid I won't make it all day at the park
We are going in Nov (with DS) ad plan to do Epcot then (hopefully)

Help!

Hmmm, tough decision. If it were me and had only one night for an anniversary trip... I'd spring for a deluxe resort and then just hang out at the pool and enjoy the resort. Especially since you're going back in November. But a chance to do Epcot without kids would be great too. LOL whatever you decide I'm sure will be a blast. Have fun and Happy Anniversary!

i would do epcot. you can browse without hearing "let's goooooooo. i'm boooooooored!" you can also ride the "big" rides together! i would jump at the chance to go to ANY park sans DS. i could do all the things i couldnt do with him. anyway that is my choice. what does your hubby want to do?

I actually thought about surprising DH with a little getaway trip and the plan was gonna be to book AKL savannah view (our favorite resort) and just hang out at the hotel. No worries... maybe go to Downtown Disney or Cirque or something but no parks. Last trip we really did not get to sit back, relax and take in the resort - it's that breathtaking. I could sit on the balcony for HOURS!!!!

I booked a standard room at CSR for 122.00 (tax included). That was a FL Res rate. We have a goal of paying off ALL credit card debt by summer and paying cash for our entire Thanksgiving trip at WL (tickets included). That's why we really need to budget to do this. Right now I will wait until DH gets home and see what he thinks. I also got a PS at Ohana for 7:20- fireworks are at 8pm. If we go with plan 1, it would be more relaxing for sure. I guess we can also catch the ewp from the poly beach and then go back to CSR and walk around the lake. Epcot is tempting, but will I be stressed??????? Remember, we would be arriving very early after a 3hr drive. It's so tempting to check into CSR, get a drink at the pool bar and do NOTHING!

I think that if you are leaning towards seeing Epcot then you will find it hard to be in the area and not do it.

I see from your stats that you have been going to WDW quite a bit these last couple of years. Any chance of that trend continuing? If yes, why not purchase AP's and use them on this trip. Try to get a good deal at Swan Dolphin. It is wonderful to be able to stroll over to Epcot or MGM. If you have AP's you could even park hop. If this is not affordable, I would still vote to stay in a less expensive off-site hotel and go to a park. There are many very nice off-site places.

I think there is plenty to do at Epcot even if it rains (actually, I think more so than if you were just hanging around the resort. Who wants to swim in the rain in March?). You mentioned that you would be arriving early - what if they could not assign you a room until official check-in time? That to me would be more unsettling if my plans were to just lounge around the pool. If I were heading off to a park, who cares when the room is ready.

Thanks for all of your wonderful advice!! We have decided not to go to Epcot (as of now). We will take our time driving up (knowing us we will be there by 9am!). We will pre-check in and head over to DTD (by car, of course!). We will probably stroll around, have lunch, then go explore CSR, go in the pool (weather permitting), and get ready for our PS at Ohana's. We'll take our time checking out the Poly (for a future stay, of course!)

We will buy AP's in Nov , when our son goes with us. Just foudn out that our van needs to go in for the "big" 30,000 mile service ($500). Oh well! I think our tax refund is spent!

I say for your first honeymoon, go for the deluxe resort. I am going for my honeymoon in October and we are staying at the Poly.

Personally....CSR or AKL are great choices if you just want to hang out and enjoy your surroundings without park visiting. Those are the only 2 resorts I, too, would pick if I had that plan in mind.

But, just a little off topic...In my experience I have found those 30,000....50,000.....75,000 mile check ups to be the biggest rip-off car dealerships have going for them. They push them heavily in order to overcharge you for routine service. Find out EXACTLY what that 30,000 mile service covers, then take your van to an independent or trusted auto shop and have that work done for 1/3rd the price. I'm assuming a new van with 30,000 miles is still under warranty anyway.

I say have fun and relax! :)

There is plenty of time to do epcot, dont stress that you have to spend the day at Epcot, you want to enjoy your anniversary celebration, not worry that you have to spend the whole day at Epcot cause you bought the ticket.

I love the idea of DTD, relax at the Reosrt... how romantic!

Have a great time!

Laura :)
