I have owned and fostered all types of dogs in the past. I am now the proud owner of a devil dog! This is a 5 month old miniature schnauzer that is only 10 pounds. She is the smallest dog I have ever owned and she is trouble but sooooooo cute.

She is eating through toys like crazy and it has caused multiple trips to the vet for stomach issues.

The two things she hasn't destroyed are the Nylabone and Kong. She isn't thrilled with the Nylabone. She loves the Kong but only when someone is playing with her.

She has yanked threads out of all the tugs we have bought and presumably eaten the threads (hence the stomach issues).

She has chewed through at least six different stuffed animal type toys (dog approved ones) and pulled out the stuffing and/or the squeak.

She ate chunks out of my tennis shoe during my 20 minute shower. Now she gets crated when I shower.

Are there any toys on the market that dogs love to chew on but are hard to destroy? I can't believe something so small could be so destructive. I have owned 80 pound dogs that did less damage!

I have a small dog exactly the same way. Buy a toy, give her 10 min, and it's ruined. She would tear through a Nylabone (until the vet said they're horrible for dogs - they're so hard the dog's teeth will move before the bone does....he's seen many, many missing dog teeth because of them). I do know a lot of people who use them without issue, though. My dogs never did like Kongs.

I don't have a good answer for you. I did recently buy them a stuffing-free stuffed animal and so far that's a good one.

We had a dog many years ago that had stomach issues from eating the fuzz off tennis balls and fur off stuffed animals. We had to get rid of all of those. It was worth it just for lack of vet bills.

Another thing you can do is de-stuff your toys. Then there's no stuffing for her to eat. She'll just have the shell.

I have a Miniature Schnauzer - they are especially hard on chew toys, I think. We stick to Nylabone's for chewing and Bad/Good Cuz for squeakers. She can still chew through a Nylabone fairly quickly (quicker than my large mutt) but it lasts a lot longer.

She also loves Bully Sticks but they are too pricey to not be a special occasion thing.

Thanks everyone. You have given me a couple things to look for at the pet store. Glad I am not the only one that has a tiny dog that can chew through toys like crazy.

You might try one of these. You put kibble inside, and the dog ends up spending quite an amount of time trying to get the kibbles out. They come in different shapes & sizes.

There are some good toys that don't have any stuffing, so maybe one of those would work. Our lab really enjoys this one, http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4050042&lmdn=Dog+Toys , but there are several other by the same company.

Our two Bostons took stuffing out of the blue dragon. It has lasted A LOT longer than any other stuffed animal, but the dragon's nose had some stuffing in it and our Bostons took that out after a few days. Nothing else so far so I call the dragon a success!

We use various nylabones as well. Our dogs even destroy their tennis balls!

We also found a toy at Petsmart or Petco that has a water bottle in the middle that you can replace. They seems to like that one and haven't managed to destroy it yet.

Get a jolly ball, my dog tears up all his toys but on amazon you can buy jolly ball products that can't be destroy.

Is this filled with air so it is squishy? I can't tell from the description. If so, that would be great.

These look like something she would love. She seems to want to eat anything and everything and doesn't mind working to get the prize.

I was just looking at the water bottle toys last weekend. I should have bought one.

She can't have tennis balls because she eats the fuzz off of those, as well.

I am just shocked that such a little thing is so full of piss and vinegar. Our 7 y/o miniature schnauzer has never destroyed a toy in his life.

Wow, my girl does not even chew on the head, so I did not think of that. She got one at Christmas that lasted 6 months before she put a hole big enough to pull the squeeker out. (she still plays with it though)

Another thing that I have tried, is the fleece tug rope. Ours is a bit "thinner" now, but still works. I have heard that the actual rope tug toys are not good for their teeth/gums.

We have a pup who is 15 months old now and is a cross between a pug and german pointer (she's only about a foot tall not a big dog by any means) but from the time we first got her at 11 weeks old she has chewed everything in sight!

I mean seriously chewed EVERYTHING.......the cover to our hot tub, cables for the satellite dish, inside of the dog house, handles on shovels, trees and logs.....I had a stack of books which in one night she gnawed through the spine of 6 of them(soft and hard cover), she eats comforters, duvets, and the list goes on and on everything!

Absolutely every toy bought, nylabones will last about a week and she has then gnawed to little pieces that are either too sharp or small that she could choke, kongs will last a bit longer as she cannot get her jaws around the bigger ones! She has a weird little set of teeth...they are very small and her jaw is way stronger than that of our chocolate lab.

My advice is keep plenty of bigger sized kongs and nylabone....to buy anything else is a waste of money!!

We have a 14mo Brittany Spaniel. Forget Nylabones she eats those. The only thing she hasn't been able to destroy are the Kongs and the Buster Cube (another kibble leaking toy). But Buster Cube was so loud and she threw it around so much that it dented the front door, so we had to give it to her outside, which means that the kibble gets dew on it and eeeew.

She also chews on plants, trees, bricks, our siding the house foundation, and anything and everything that gets left outside. I'm waiting for her to start eating rocks.

I don't know what to tell you. DH gets a wild hair so often and buys her a new toy and she destroys it in minutes. I'm like... that was a waste of money!

We rescued a yorkie pup and he is trouble too... he chews EVERYTHING! His toys, the cats' toys, the kids' toys (including a $40 video game one of the kids left on the floor), shoes, paper, he even chewed our woodwork. He has separation anxiety and he does not tolerate being crated (complete mental breakdown, thrashing around so bad he moves the crate across the room) unless we crate him with our other yorkie. Thankfully our other, older, much more sane yorkie has really taken to him and doesn't mind sharing his crate.

I'm looking into some of the toys noted here. I'm hoping our little guy outgrows this chewing stage. He is such a lovebug and has been through so much in his short life that I don't regret for a second that we got him. DH is still a bit upset about the woodwork and his slippers, though.

ETA he also love electrical cords.... chewed through our speaker wires, cordless phone chargers, video game chargers (how he hasn't gotten electrocuted I'll never know). I am currently charging my cell phone in my car because it is the only one left!

Sounds like my year and a half old Min Pin (10 lbs). I refuse to remind myself of what all he has chewed up (self-preservation of my sanity ).

I have a black Lab (about the same age), and the Min Pin makes him look like a pitiful amateur! :rotfl2: Charlie is now crated anytime we aren't home. Oddly enough, he doesn't bother anything other than his toys if we're around (I think he chews on other stuff because he doesn't like it when gone).

I went to the PetSmart dog toy section labeled "extreme chewers". Apparently, they must have mislabeled that section based on what Charlie did to that toy. ;) Like others, I've gotten rid of tennis balls and any type of stuffed dog toy (no matter how small, he'll find the stuffing). I try to watch for toys that are tough enough for him and get them as I come across them. They don't last long though. All I can say is that Charlie has some tough teeth!

And he loves to aggravate the cats (who are bigger than he is)...:lmao:

But isn't destroying the toy the fun part?

We have 2 mini doxies that LOVE to shred. Give them a new stuffed toy & within 5-10 minutes it's flattened & my living room is full of fuzz :lmao:

Their natural hunting instincts definately show when they whip the heads of the talking frog/monky/pig/etc. (done to snap the neck of its catch) to get it to stop.

Fire hoses, tires, you name it, they've killed it.

Luckily we never had an issue with them going after things that weren't theirs. They were never destructive in the house. Go figure :confused3

Both my pups were the destroyer of all toys. That is until I found the brand-fat cat inc. I first found them at Target but haven't been able to find them for a while.

We've had three of these in the life of our 4 year old dog. Usually, stuffed toys would be destroyed in minutes. These stuffed toys are incredibly durable. Can;t say enough about them, and they come in funny styles! be sure to check out the size so you don't get a tiny one for a huge dog or visa versa.

Our Bostons haven't managed to rip the bottle out yet. I have had to replace it, but the cover itself has held up fine. I think there are 3 or 4 velcro strips at the bottom to keep the bottom in. They don't seem to mess with that.

Ours eat the fuzz off of tennis balls and then they actually start to rip the balls to pieces!

We've had luck with ropes...they don't destroy those thankfully.

Hahahahaha! Welcome to my world.

I buy stuffed animals at Goodwill and Salvation Army (or sometimes Garage Sales, too) for like a quarter a pop, now. I get bags full, stuff them in the closet and pull them out as needed.

Sometimes it's sad to see Winnie the Pooh, or Eeyore be ripped to smithereens. But the dogs seem to enjoy themselves. ;)

we have a yellow lab, sushi, that is in the terrible two's still.

there is 1 toy that she hasn't destroyed. it's a male voodoo doll (the kind you see as a gag gift for an office worker). it was on target's dollar aisle.

she loves boy hooman. i dunno why, but he's lasted all this time, probably since she was a puppy. girl hooman just kinda fell apart. i actually traced him on paper so i can make another if he dies.

if there's a tag on the stuffed animal, that's the first to go. that usually opens up the stitching to get the squeaker and then my den has "snow".

also, the dog containers that release treats like the purple one on page 1, she figured out how to get it unscrewed and got ALL the treats at once. LOL she worked hard for it. that was supposed to be indestruable.

i find her all the plastic dog toys on the sale rack after xmas. i don't mind 50 cents for a plastic toy that will give her 30 minutes of fun.

her favorite toys are the empty coke boxes. she's so good at ripping them, i've thought about starting a confetti company. :rotfl:

Think about all the stories you will have to tell about the things she does!:rotfl:
