Yep....my hair has turned green from the pool  This hasn't happened to me since I was a kid. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should :confused3

I do dye my hair, and I recently went from a real carrot red to a real blonde red for summer. Please tell me there is something I can do that doesn't involve cutting 4 inches off my hair.

I don't really know what to tell you except to go to the person who does your hair and get her to correct it. I dye my hair too but I dye it medium brown. A girl I don't normally go to put dye on it that was too dark and another salon was able to mix a solution of bleach, shampoo, and water to strip some of the color off and then dye it back a natural looking shade of medium brown. I sometimes use a clarifying shampoo and that helps to strip it but have a good conditioner ready because it makes your hair feel dry. Someone at a Sally's beauty store told me to mix equal parts developer and shampoo and put it on your hair for 15-20 minutes and it will lift color. It may be safer though to go to a salon and let someone fix it so if it strips your color they can redye your hair and make it look the same color root to the ends.

Good Luck!!

Chlorine and blond hair dye do not mix well I agree about going to a salon to get it fixed.

I think they make special shampoos for it. Try a clarifying shampoo, that should help. I always have dd rinse her hair really good and wash with a clarifying shampoo after she has gone in a pool with a lot of chlorine. She has very blond hair. Good luck!

:grouphug: to you, Sandy. I don't have any advice for you since that has not happened to me before, since I have brown hair.
Looks like others have posted here to help. Hope you can get your hair fixed to the right color :wizard:

Redken makes a product called "UV Rescue". I have used it on my daughter who has blonde hair. Last year it started to turn green and my hairstylist suggested shampooing with it. It worked for her, but YMMV! Good luck!

Go to Sally's and buy the ion crystal clarify packet (I think that is what it is called). Mix the dry ingredients in the package with 2 oz of water and it should turn to a gel like mixture. Put in on your hair and cover with a shower cap. Use your blow dryer for a few minutes to heat it up and leave it on for about 20 minutes. This took the green right out of my daughters hair.

I would ask your hairdresser though before you use it as my daughter's hair is not colored. If you plan to swim more this summer, buy the ion shampoo and conditioner as well to help prevent this from happening again. Good Luck!

My sister is a hair dresser and she said to mix even amounts of your regular shampoo and baking soda and wash your hair with that. She said scrub your ends really good and leave it on for 5 minutes before you rinse. She also said that if you treat you hair once a week with hot oil treatments it will prevent it from happening. HTH. :sunny:

I've heard that if you dye your hair blonde and swim that it can and probably will go green as you know...but I've heard thaif you put tomato ketchup on it & leave it in for about 10 mins or so then the green tinge will vanish. But and I add a huge *but* I don't have blonde hair and I HATE to swim!!

I would try the ketchup and then call your hairstylist tomorrow morning first thing!!

Last time I tried to go light I screwed it up and looked like a *hopefully this doesn't offend anyone* Mexican *lady of the night* for lack of a better wording! :rolleyes1

My dd has very dark blonde hair with some blonde streaks and the streaks are turning a greenish color. I told her I was going to the beauty supply store to get the special shampoo and she begged me to let her keep it for a while :rotfl: Will it harm her hair if I leave the green for a few more weeks???

I use Agree Swimmer's Solution that I got ages ago at Walmart. I haven't seen it recently, though. I have natural light blonde hair, and it goes pretty green when I swim in pools. I also used to use the baking soda tip, which seemed to help, and washing with a clarifying shampoo as soon as you get out of the pool helps prevent green "build up."

baking soda/MORE WATER THAN VINEGAR would always do the trick for me. make it pasty leave it on for about 15 min. spray/shower it off... I'd always do it with the hose because i was seven but yeah.

Baking Soda, Vinegar, and Water always worked for me! Leave it sit there, as mentioned, for 15 minutes (that's about as long as I can take smelling like that in the shower) and then rinse it off and you should be pleasantly surprised! Good luck!

Loreal makes a kids shampoo that is called Sport and Swim. It is a blue bottle with an orange top. DH and I use it too, as it is very gentle and it works. It will remove the chlorine out of your hair. We keep it around all the time as our kids swim in the winter and take swim lessons in an indoor rec center in the winter.

Sorry to hear this happened to you Sandy!!

No adivce but I thought I'd let you know that there are lots of famous people who have had green and hair and it never bothered them.
