HELP! Minneapolis/St. Paul DISers

I thought of another thing, if you go to Stillwater, just don't mention anything about the bridge to anyone and you will be just fine. :rotfl2:

Ahh, road refurbishments. We have a major highway that "the public" just got to see some plans for.... some of them are out of this world! I suspect a similar reaction in Cincinnati soon..... :rotfl2:

but why would you ever want to cross the bridge into Wisconsin?!?! ;)

The liquor store across the bridge is open on Sunday so if you run out of beer during the football game you have someplace to go :drinking1 .

Bump! Anyone else? Plane leaves tomorrow!

Thanks everyone so far for your suggestions! :goodvibes

Oh I am LOL at this thread. We hit Scony on Sunday's...but usually do the Hudson route.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Stillwater. Such a cool town. We had our wedding reception at a hotel along the river..

I grew up in Maplewood and I still love it. The mall area has SO much - especially will all the new stuff there.

I have lived in Highland Park (well, just outside of it along Snelling) and it is nice because there is always something going on. Summit is SOO cool to drive down and Grand Ave is just amazing.

I lived in Oakdale for a few years and that is such a cool city. I loved how close knit people were and the houses are still pretty afforable - AND fairly new!

We live in White Bear Lake right now. It's a cute little city, but I don't get the "closeness" feeling I got in Mplwd or Oakdale. It's kind of "if you didn't grow up here, then we won't talk to you" kind of attitude.

But my fave city in the East Metro is Woodbury (sorry Golfgal...I adore it!). We are going to be moving that way in about a year. It has all new shopping/restaurants/everything. The houses are beautiful, it is convenient (right off 94 and 694), great schools, great hospital, and it is still pretty reasonable, IMO.

Best of luck to your DH!! We had to take my son to Children's - St. Paul quite a few times last winter and I have nothing but positive things to say about them. Always made us feel special and like we were the only ones they were treating. My MIL was at Regions when she died., and the doctors were fabulous there, too....

Oh and Golfgal - were you Stillwater HS grad?

No, we moved to Mendota Heights when I was a sophomore so I graduated from Henry Sibley.

Ahhh - I only ask because Stillwater was our "rival" in HS - I went to Hill-Murray..

In places to wander around, I would suggest the following:

Blaine ~ up and coming northern suburb. Right close to 35W so you can shoot to the U in about 15 minutes. We live on the east side of Blaine and my DH used to work just north of the U of MN. And we both went to the U and commuted from up this way. Lots of new developments, shopping, residential areas. Removed from the city, but they are building these little shopping areas like little Main Streets so it feels more hometown-ish.

Maple Grove ~ north western suburb. They HAVE a huge shopping area and have exploded in growth in the last decade. This would be a bit longer of a drive to the U, probably 40 minutes, depending on traffic, but it's mostly all highway. They have a quaint little main street area as well and the open air mall...I love to shop there because it feels so hometown-ish.

Roseville ~ big inner ring suburb VERY close to the U. The first real big shopping area. It's a little older city so you won't find new developments, but there are distinct advantages to this area as well. Very convenient.

My brother lives in Eden Prairie. I have no idea where it is in relation to anything. I know it wasn't terribly far from Mall of America. It seemed like a very nice area.

You add $50,000 to your house just by saying Eden Prairie. It is a nice area but the traffic around there is HORRIBLE.

Um, it is kind of cold right now so bring some warm clothing. It isn't usually this cold this time of year but the weekend is supposed to be warmer.

My aunt emailed and told me the temps the last couple of days :earseek: :earseek:

I went in January before and it wasn't NEAR as cold! We're packing lots of warm clothes as I type :)

Good luck with your tour of the Twin Cities!

Yeah, it's mightly cold right now. We 're not used to below zero weather in the fall. Especially this fall, which has been really nice.

Temps will starting moderating Thursday.

herc.
