I have a canon T3i. I really love it. But I also have a five and two year old. I find myself not using my DSLR because I have diapers and sippies and well. You get the picture. So Im planning on selling my first love. And I want a get a great point and shoot under the amount I can get for my T31. I See a current bid of 450.00 on a T31 that is not done yet on EBAY. So can you help. I love the quality of pics I get but its time for me to get a camera I can carry easier and not mess with lenses. Thanks!!!!

If you want to stick with Canon the s110 i think would fit the bill for you. It can record in RAW if you want to edit pictures and the quality is pretty good from what I read.

I am trying to talk my wife into this camera. She has a good eye for pics and has no desire to carry around my DSLR. I would like the RAW because it would allow me to edit her pictures.

If you get that price, the Canon G15 has a faster lens at zoom than the s110 and may have a better grip and controls...but is a tad bulkier.

Just remember, when moving to a P&S you will loose the quick focusing and instant firing that a DSLR offers.

Have you considered the mirrorless, micro 4/3 options? I just bought a Olympus E-pl5 and I love it! It is small enough to stay in my purse and has reasonable lens options if I want to swap them out. It is a fun little camera!

At least in the theme parks, it was a lot easier for me when we had a child in a stroller. We figured out two or three ways to stash or mount a camera bag in or on the stroller, and I didn't have to constantly have it on my back. Now I carry it far more than I once did, but the results are worth it -- and I don't want any smaller camera. My clumsy hands have enough trouble with a D7000. Wish it was the size and heft of my D300!

Last time I was there, I bought a package of 100 nylon zip ties, and made sure I had a set of fingernail clippers in my pocket. During the day, I zip-tied my tripod to my bag and clipped it free when I wanted to use it. Then I just used another couple of ties to put it back when I was done. During the late afternoon and evening, I just carried the tripod much of the time.

I went dSLR, for four generations of Canons until the weight just got to be too much. Now I pack a micro 4/3 that delivers all the functionality at less than 1/2 the weight. The camera and three zoom lenses (ultra-wide, mid-range, and long) weigh less than the dSLR with only the walkaround lens.

Some of the micro 4/3 (and other mirrorless) do not have viewfinders so these are not really comparable to dSLR but Olympus EM-5 and Panasonic G series are a lot like dSLRs. The G5 with kit lens is on sale for $399 at Amazon and others.

After losing the weight but not the functionality I am not likely to go back to a dSLR. My photos don't seem to have suffered too much. ;) *Everything on our website since late 2011 has been from micro 4/3.

I just looked at your web sight and believe you to be under some sort of "itakeamazingdisneypictures" spell. Those pics are seriously awesome. I must say :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: BRAVO:)

P&S

Panasonic LX7. Good
SONY RX00 Great

Micro 4/3

Olympus e-pm2
Olympus e-pl5
Olympus e-5 )(expensive but in the $850 range if you can find a good deal.)

Why not keep the camera and change the way you "carry" it? I was in the same situation as far as kids, and having to take a backpack along with a stroller, and I found the BlackRapid Sports strap to solve my carrying issues. You can secure the camera in-place on the strap and off to the side of your hip with the quick sliding locking mechanisms located on the strap. There are two. You just adjust them to where you'd like to keep your camera out of the way, and then when you need it just flip one lock up and slide it up. It's also VERY comfortable. Maybe look into how to better carry it instead of getting rid of such a great camera? .02

Thanks for the suggestions. Although I had bids on the camera I decided to end the autcion. I read a lot of reviews and watched comparisons, and I really love my camera. So I made this to protect it at least if I throw it in my purse or want grab it for a quick shoot and only need one lens. I have a huge case that came free with the camera and I think thats more my prob. Thanks for the links on the back strap.. Ill check into that too! :)

I have both. I have a Canon point & shoot that I can carry in my pocket and a starter Canon DSLR, which I love. I plan on taking them both with me when I go in September. Each has it's own time and place to be used.

Perfect. I do the same thing. I think between the DSLR, the P&S, and our iPhones, we must look like photo nuts at the parks. Constantly stopping to get the same shots every year.

Interesting option for $450....

Many would agree that the best p&s on the market is the Sony Rx100/100mark2.

The original rx100 can be found for about $550. The new mark2 is $750.

But for $450 you can soon buy the qx100. It is the same lens and sensor as the 100m2, which attaches to a smart phone which becomes the control and screen.

I'm on the verge of adding a Samsung nx1000 mirrorless to my disney kit for the middleweight work. 20mp aps-c sized sensor and two really decent kit lens for about $430. With a pancake lens on it it will fit in my front pants pocket.
