Help me with UY, please.

We are looking at buying into a resale contract. I know which resort I want and how many points (don't think I could post that here or it would be thought as a wanted to buy posting.)

We would vacation at our home resort over summer break, early June to early August. We would also want to vacation at Disney World during the same period every few years. What would be our ideal UY? I am willing to hold out until the right contract comes along. What makes most sense?

You want a UY that is just before the time you want to travel. In your case a June UY would be ideal because you get your points on 6/1/xx and you have until 5/31/x1 to use the points, so if you have to cancel a reservation that you have in August, you still have until the following May 31st to use the points.

If you don't want to cut it that close then go with an April UY.

For ability to cancel and bank you want a use year where you do not travel in the 3 preceding months.

I am a teacher so we always go to WDW in the summer. I have a June UY and think it works out well for me summer travel. Having my points become available right before I travel is nice (and hopefully, will put me in a position of not having to borrow very often).

I have until Jan 31st to bank points, so even if I want to travel during my school breaks (Thanksgiving, Christmas or February), I can.

I think any contract February to June would be good. A February use year's banking deadline is 9/30.

I think that June would be the perfect UY with the Jan banking deadline. That way you could maybe plan for a December vacation (something we NEVER considered when we bought ... we were childless and now we go over NYE every year!) and still cancel and bank should something go wrong.

I have FINALLY sold DH on buying. Now I've just got to save up some more money and it is a go. I really appreciate these boards. I have learned so much and can buy knowing that I understand the full DVC picture.
