Ok, ever watch those shows where they have $1000 to redo a room and you think "I could of done that for $100!". Ok here is your chance :)

The goal - to create a fun Disney office for myself with $100. You know, something that would make any 6 year old envious!

The room - 10 X 10. Hardwood floors in a medium/dark brown color. Walls were painted white about 2 years ago. There are two windows and a small closet.

My loot - I have about 10 statues/globes. 3 are very nice, others are small. I also have some stuffed animals to toss around (the good ones are in the nursery, I did however keep a very cool huge Dumbo for me!). I already have the wood and brackets to create the shelving. I also have a computer desk that I don't care for that can't be painted that I'll probably keep unless you come up with something better.

The tools - I practically have a Home Depot in my basement and I'm pretty handy. What I can't do, my Dad can.

About me - I am into lime and turquoise right now. The rest of the house is white and shades of blue in a cottage style (think bargain look a like Pottery Barn). I am also a pink fan but own zero princess items or I'd be hot gluing sparkle tulle everywhere.

So how would you spend $100??

Posters are an obvious choice. Big and cheap!
Sorry, I'm not that creative  - but I can't wait to see the suggestions you'll get!

You could paint your desk to look like Mickey's shorts - maybe a black top, red sides and drawers, with giant yellow button drawer pulls (you can get wood ones cheap - or cut them out of wood, paint, and attach with long screws). Using Disney font, you could paint on the top of the desk in white paint different Disney sayings, character names, etc.

Paint is cheap - you're biggest bang for the buck. If you can get your hands on an overhead projector (try your library, church, or school) you can copy your favorite Mickey poses (or characters, or whatever) onto overhead projector sheets - project on the wall and trace. Then fill in with paint.

I would go with your basic walls in a fun color and then I would paint the character shadows on the walls! I like the idea of the posters too....but I would make sure you frame them in really cool frames, something shabby chic maybe to match tie in the cottage style of the rest of the house? The overhead projecter idea is fantastic, it's what I would go with... only I wouldn't try and color them in... I would shadow them in for subtlety and then fill in with fun stuff. :) How fun!

If you cannot get your hands on a projector you can get stencils at Home Depot..or you can buy wall border..but I would personally go for thge projector so you could make life size characters on the wall. That owuld make any child envious!!! :cool1:

Hi. What about framing 12 by 12 Disney scrapbooking paper. You can get that size frame and paint each one Disney colours.
-Disney material-throw pillows,curtains
-Disney Pens at dollar stores
-sample size rugs in Disney colours and sew together.(Some carpet places give them away.
-take different size cans and wrap in Disney paper for pens and pencils
-or take clear jars and decorate with Disney stickers
- Do you have any Disney maps to frame?
I will return with more ideas.

I love Tink!! I wanted a Tink Desk set. Looked HIGH, low and everywhere, nothing, noda.

I found Tinker Bell stickers at Hot Topic, I bought 3 different ones.

Then I went to Wal-mart and found a clear Bathroom set soap dish, drinking glass and a toothbrush holder I bought the whole set!

I took out the holder for the toothbrushs. I added the stickers to the glasses but one of the stickers had the word Believe under it, I cut this off as it wouldn't fit. One of these glasses I use for pens, the other holds green paper with a bouquet of baby rose buds, and I added the Believe sticker to the inside edge of the soap dish which works great for paper clips and small binder clips, and loose pennies.

All I was missing was a business card holder which a friend had a clear on she had replaced so she gave it to me!!

Now I have an Original Tink desk set!!!

PS. I hated the Disney Shopping Tink desk set that came out 2 years later!! Mines still going strong!!

PSS. My Family for home, gave me the Cutest Tink throw pillow and a Great Tink Fleece Throw!!

Last year my boss gave me an awesome Mickey desk set. It's the pencil holder, stapler and tape dispenser. She got them through LTD Commodities and I have seen the price and it was very reasonable. Check out their website- they have a lot of Disney stuff there.

I got a Mickey head sponge at the Kitchen store at WDW. I used the sponge to sponge paint Mickey heads on my walls. I used left over paint and had fun...cheap and effective.

When the kids were little, I glued fabric on their blinds, to add some whimsy to the room.

Be sure to post pictures when you are done!

If you decide to do any framing be sure to check out thrift stores (Goodwill, Salvation Army, ect). They usually have terrible pictures, but w/ great frames. Way cheaper, and usually unique.

Great site! Thanks for the info!

I am in the process of making a Disney spare bedroom. i painted the top portion of the room a lavendar/blue/gray color (the color is called Eeyore from Home Depot) and the bottom portion white. ( I had to paint 2 colors because the wall is divided in the middles with paneling). I bought about 15 posters from Allposters.com. They were about $3.99 each. They were all of different Disney movies. I bought 8X10 picture black picture frames from the dollar store and put them up with the poster with velcro tape.

I have pictures of us at Disney that I put in there and collected all of the stuffed animals that are of Disney in that room in various areas, shelves, etc. I bought Pooh light switches.

All I can say is garage sales!!!! Decorating in Disney theme is not a very cheap thing to do - as I am finding out!

But so you know, all the official Disney paints are at Home Depot!

If you have any kind of artistic ability at all you could do something like this:

Paint the walls a tannish color, maybe even a wash to make it look like older paper

draw a line maybe halfway up or a little higher on the wall.

Get one of those projectors and project life sized sketches of all characters on the wall, paint the 'sketches' onto the wall with black paint. something like this maybe:

(hope this works)

You can find images on the internet and print them onto transparent paper (you can get that at staples).

You could do all different characters and make it look as if someone sketched them right onto the wall.

If you're going to do like someone suggested - paint your desk to look like mickey, on the table top of the desk you could paint it black with chalk board paint (get that at home depot or wherever), that would be a fun idea for that, then you could write notes in chalk..

tricia.

I was surprised to see Disney character wall decals at Sears (in the paint dept.)! They're advertised to be easy to place and take off! They looked great! The decals are small to moderate size. They ahd all the princesses, cars, Tinkerbell, I think Nemo. I can't remember them all. But I know I'll be going back to pick up a number of them. They looked great and were reasonably priced! :)

HTH!

Why can't the desk be painted??

Its a pressed sawdust desk that has a clear laminate type finish. Nothing sticks to it, which makes it a great desk if it is the type of desk you want.

I think I am going to make a very simple table/desk for my PC and paint it all kinds of colors then yardsale this one :)

Keep the ideas coming, very very helpful! :thumbsup2

we did our sons room over 3 yrs ago in Mickey theme. The bottom 1/2 is red, the top is skyblue. I painted clouds on the blue (did a couple of hidden mickey clouds) and then did a border in the middle. We had Mickey comforters

Kim, before you get rid of the desk, have you tried sanding it with an orbital sander? Also, check out home depot, they have spray paints now that will stick to surfaces that paint wont typically stick to. They also have spraypaint that will put a 'rough' finish on things to make other paint stick to it.

this spray paint sticks to glossy surfaces.

Also depending on what it is that's so glossy on your desk, you might be able to get a spray or chemical stripper to pull it off so you can paint it again. Might be cheaper than buying a new desk! Just a suggestion.

Lime and turq = Tink.
Paint the walls a turq, then rag it with watered down white-to soften the color.
Pick up the lime with curtains-some have wispy panels of lime, turq, pink, etcEven Wal mart has multi colored panels so do JC Penneys and I think Pottery Barn kids or PB teens.

To make the curtains:
Measure the length you want them +2-4 inches

buy sheer fabric in the colors that you want
attach curtain rod brackets

loop a bit of fabric(2 inch or so) over the rod and apply a bead of fabric glue the width of each piece and press with fingers to set

You could paper the bottom 1/3 with Tink paper-much cheaper than papering a whole room.

Or add a border or Wallies.

If you are not artistic, try to get your hands on one of those blow up projectors and draw whatever Disney pictures you like on the wall with chalk Color in the drawings with paint

I did our guestroom / office / scraproom in Disney on a budget. It also has white walls.

Basically, I gathered as much Disney stuff & framed Disney items I had from around the house. BUT, I did have a really nice Disney T-Shirt hanging in the closet since 1999 that never fit right. I framed it.!!! Looks awesome.

You can browse the other pictures of the room too.

How about using some of your photos & having them blown up & frame them. Or crop certain sections & blow that up.

Check Salvation Army or thrift shops or yardsales for a desk you can paint.
