I would love to start saving a ton with coupons. We are a single income family of 4 and we spend way too much on food each week. We just moved to Mt Dora, FL and we are 2 minutes from Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Publix, or just about any other store.

Please give me tips, websites, or strategies of any kind. I know nothing about it. Thanks!!!!

My one big tip is to start planning menus each week. Helps most of us keep the food bills down because we are buying what we need, not what we might need for the week.

There are several good websites. I like hotcouponworld.com, but A Full Cup and Coupon Mom are good ones too. Be sure to read the stickies for the basics.

I am in the same boat as you as far as spending WAY too much at the grocery store. I made the first step to overspending yesterday by planning the entire weeks meals yesterday before I went to the grocery store. Then, I wrote out a list of what I needed for all those meals. My plan is to do this every week. The next step now is coupon hunting! Good Luck!

Try joining a coupon train here on the Disboards. You'll receive an envie every week and then send one to the next rider every week.

I plan my meals after I look at the weekly circular and try to cook based on what is on sale. If something is on sale that is non-perishable and that my family uses, I stock up, especially if I have a coupon. We have a lot of cereal and soup right now but it won't go bad before we use it.

Try to combine manufacturer coupons with store coupons for the same product to get extra savings.

www.thriftyandthriving.com has a lot of good deals listed.

Good luck!

There is an awesome blog called iheartpublix.com - she does all the match ups and gives you previews of what's on sale the next week.

Also, Florida is loaded with Flea markets, and many of them have grocery vendors who deeply discount things like soup, rice, shampoo, etc. You should also find cheaper prices on produce ( not sure where you moved from) . Use Publix for the buy one get one free deals, and Target.com often has coupons for meat and produce. Winn Dixie is cheap for meat, but we have had some problems with their meat. You might be better off planning meals based on whatever meat Publix has on sale.

Good luck and welcome to Florida!

We do not purchase much processed foods, so I find often the coupons at the grocery store are not all that helpful to me. However, I make a meal list for 2 weeks based off of sales for each week. I write up a list at the store and stick to it so I'm not impulse buying. When I make my list, I look at the coupon database on afullcup.com to see if there are coupons out there for the items I am purchasing.

I typically can save 35-50% on groceries just by doing this. Where I am able to save a ton of money is on health and beauty items at drug stores. It has helped our budget tremendously to not have to put out money for cleaning supplies, tissues, shampoos, medications, etc. In fact, most of the time the drug stores will pay me to take items from them. I always get the items that are money makers and donate what I can't use.

For specific items go to that items web site and see if they have any coupons that you can print. If you belong to a certain church or group see if they have a coupon swap. Not to label anyone but it you have an "older" neighbor they usually get the paper and do not use the coupons, ask for theirs.

Another vote for SouthernSavers.com

I love this site! She matches the sales/deals up to current coupons and you can print your list directly from the site! You can choose whether the list you print includes coupon match-ups or not. I use this site for Publix, CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens. She has other stores listed too, but I don't usually shop there.

These are great ideas!!! Thanks so much!!

I also figure out what is on sale for the following weeks (iheartcvs, iheartwags, etc.) and will buy coupons for sale items in bulk from someplace like ebay. I can usually get 20 coupons for $2-$3 depending on how "hot" it is. I find it's cheaper to just purchase the coupons I need/want as opposed to buying a paper. I, too, have saved a ton on toiletries and cleaning supplies from CVS and Walgreens. I live in a small town, s owe don't have many shopping options. Sometimes, I can find good deals on groceries and I'll stock up, sometimes I can't.
