She just had a Birthday and got a lot of what she was asking for.

So far this is what I have --

Turbo Twist Spelling and/or Math

Disney Music Game

New Books for her Leap Pad

I like to get one big item and then just a few smaller things.

She loves Princess Stuff, but has a lot of it and likes to play N64, but I am having trouble finding new games that she would like since they aren't making any new ones for it. She doesn't play with Dolls much but does like Barbie's. She also is really into reading and books. She tries every evening to learn more words.

What do your DD's in this age group like?? Any suggestions???

Melinda

Well, my 5 1/2 year old already has two X-mas lists for Santa. Off the top of my head I remember:

Barbie Styling Head
Disney Princess Karaoke Machine
Various art supplies/kits
Polly Pocket anything
Leap Pad Books
Disney Sorry Game

I'm trying to steer away from large size items as there is no longer room for that stuff. Educational stuff seems to be her favorite - she would draw, read, do a craft all day long so I'm leaning more in those areas. There are quite a few games for this age range too. She is kind of over the Chutes and Ladders/CandyLand thing but there are a whole bunch with age ranges of 6-8 (Sorry, Trouble, Jr. this and that).

DD will be 7 in a few months. She still loves playing with her American Girl dolls (a Today's Girl and a Bitty Baby -- her best friend has them as well and they play them regularly) but has tons of Barbies (gifts from friends and relatives) that she never plays with. Go figure!

Last year I got DD a journal/diary and she has been really enjoying that. She was just 6 when she started and needed help here and there spelling words but now she does it all by herself. It's really been a great learning tool and fun for her as she reads it from time to time as well and has fun remembering the times she wrote about.

How about a LiteBrite? DD loooooves hers. In fact she just gave one to a friend in her class and she really liked it as well.

A bookcase for all her books. DD got one last year and really likes having all her books in one place. Of course now we need a second one with all those scholastic book orders! She got a bunch of American Girl books too which she really enjoyed and got her interested in historical events and times.

DD loves board games. This year she has especially enjoyed playing "real" yahtzee as she calls it instead of the jr. yahtzee. We played The Game of Life at a friend's house last weekend and she really liked it. She also likes Clue, Boggle, and Trouble very much.

Someone gave her a gift certificate to a music store last year -- she got a portable CD player for her room. She's had a great time picking out CDs for herself. She got a real kick out of paying for them herself and she didn't have to spend it all at once.

Also got her a lip balm making kit from the Learning Express (forget the company's name but they have a ton of craft kits from that company) which she loved.

How about a magnetic calendar? Again, we got it from the Learning Express but I'd bet you can get it other places. You put it together monthly and it has all sorts of special magnets for all kinds of events -- birthdays, holidays, school stuff, etc. She loves doing the new one each month.

My 6yo dd wants the Fur Real Friends. I am on a waiting list now for it.
She collects trading cards.
Thanks for the suggestions for the games. :D
I was looking at the Leap Pad. Hmmm I have to give it a second look.

Thanks so much. You have given me a bunch of ideas.

I did think of a book shelf for all the books. We really need that!!! And she loves to play librarian.

She does love games too, but since she is an only, my DH and I get to play them with her. Which is difficult sometimes.

Any suggestions on computer games that help with learning to read??? She wants to learn so bad.

Melinda

My DD is an only as well so I feel your game pain! She and I have game nights (and sometimes if the mood strikes us game days!) with popcorn and hot chocolate. It's a lot of fun.

I sent you a PM on some suggestions for the computer reading things. We use book tapes a lot (I got a bunch through the Scholastic Book orders) and DD loved reading along with the tapes. We don't have too many computer reading programs unfortunately...they are mostly princess-y graphics and games.

The series of books called The Magic TreeHouse are great. The grandkids love them and we read some together when I get a chance. The first four come in a a set for around $16.00. I believe there about 30 books out now. Check out their website at www.Magic Treehouse.com :D

Wow, you guys are great!!!

aprincessmom, sent you a reply PM!!!!

I have quite a list of stuff to check out now!!!!

My girls, both of them, love to get things that are creative or they have to use their imaginations.

All kinds of art, or craft making stuff. If you have a store for teachers in your area, they have all kinds of imagination "toys" to buy.

My daughter loves craft, paper, art sets.. she likes her Leap Pad as well.
