ok. so im on allearsnet.com looking at the menu for lunch at the biergarten. can someone help me clarify what all this is. i have no idea what spatzle is? nor snitzchel or whatever? all i wanted was a brat or something. my DBF is extremely picky which is why i have to go through all the menus to make sure there is something on it that he'll eat.

Spatzle is a wheat flour noodle made with egg and milk or water. It is usually thicker and wider then fettucine. After it is boiled it is usually tossed with butter. It can be added to soups and other dishes where you would use a noodle.

Snitzchel is a meat, veal or pork is traditional, that is pounded fairly flat, breaded and then fried or baked. Jaeger Snitzchel (Hunter Snitzchel) is a common form, it is covered in a brown gravy with mushrooms.

The German rest, in Epcot has a fairly wide variety of German dishes, usually several types of sausages and sauerkraut and my favorite wine kraut.

Since it's buffet, you can just head up there and grab what looks good. Someone seeking only brats will find that, certainly, but also other interesting sausages that compare well in taste. The joy of this kind of restaurant, though, is tasting stuff you have no idea what it is (word to the wise, though: if they have Eisbein, avoid it!!) Boma benefits from this same principle.

MikeS already gave you good descriptions on the dishes you mentioned.

For your boyfriend, don't worry. Every Disney buffet has "comfort foods". Which sometimes is called a "kids buffet". It doesn't matter. Your boyfriend can eat all he wants from the comfort foods. A standard is mac and cheese. At the Biergarten, the chicken is fairly good. To me, spatzle tastes like a very bland thicker noodle. Not like an Italian noodle. But it is bland. Kind of like a better version of grits. I believe this dish was created as a very cheap filler to keep the stomachs full.

I don't know if your boyfriend is a drinker but if he is, go for the beer. They have a sampler and they also have a wine sampler.

I was a picky eater and my DD still is. Biergarten is one of our favorites! The chicken schnitzel is basically just plain breaded chicken breasts. You can add gravy to it if you'd like. The spaetzel, like Mike said, is just a wide noodle. At Biergarten, they're served plain, but gravy can be put on top.

The desserts there are ok, with the exception of the bavarian cheesecake. It's very light & fluffy is is very good.

We visit every vacation....The food is good & the atmosphere is great!!

(I highly recomment the Franziskaner Hefe Weiss....Good Beer!)

The schnitzle at Biergarten when we've been is chicken. It's served plain, without the gravy and such, but you can add it on. We like eating in Germany a lot. The food is good and the entertainment is fun! :thumbsup2
