Could someone help me out here what is a Lapu Lapu? I went to Wikapeda it said it was a bird. I read a TR titled attack of the 5 lbs. Lapu Lapu and it had a picture of a woman having a drink out of a pineapple. Could someone tell me what it is, it's a drink it's a bird?

It's a drink! It's a drink that you can get at Ohana at the Polynesian, probably somewhere else, I don't know...

Lapu Lapu
Myers rum and tropical juices served in a pineapple and topped with Bacardi 151 $9.99

I quite liked it. It was big. It was tasty. I felt a little fuzzy (but I almost never drink).

Here. Have a photo from a closed thread:

well, originally Lapu Lapu was a guy...actually a Filipino chieftan who resisted the invasion of Ferdinand Magellan...and it was Lapu Lapu & his people who actually defeated Magellan. He's considered a native hero in the Phillipines. That's your history lesson for the day:rotfl:

So, don't know if someone named the drink after him, or not. If you have one, give a cheers to the original!

I've had this drink at Ohana's and it nearly knocked me off my feet!:scared1: Beware, it's got lots of alcohol in it! I had to go have the bartender cut it down with extra pineapple juice just to drink it!

The price is more like $14 now and totally not worth it since the liquid portion is pretty small....the pineapple is huge but not hollowed out that much...very strong stuff too and a bit on the sour side.

One of my favorite drinks! Very strong, super yummy!

:scared1: That's ridiculous. Disney's out of control with the price hikes.

I Figued it was a drink. I'm not a drinker I might try it on my May trip. Thanks to everyone for their help.

It tastes just like fruit juice. You can't taste the alcohol. I theorize though that those who felt knocked on their booty as a result of drinking it either don't drink that often, drank it really fast because it doesn't taste at ALL like alcohol, or got a particularly strong one.

In any case, it is soooo delicious! I wouldn't pay $14 for it now, though I think if you're interested, you need to splurge just ONCE! I hear you can get it without the pineapple for a lower price, and I would do that now.

Yep, that is my thoughts as well. I was pretty irritated after paying nearly 20 bucks (with tip).

that whole pineapple is probably where that high cost is coming from...those things are not all that cheap. Course, there's also a bit for the Mouse built into that price.:thumbsup2

Why would you pay $20 with tip for a $14 drink? Even if you paid 20% it would only be $16.80 and I don't usually tip 20% at a bar

Something I am going to be drinking in 31 days...

(and something my parents are going to be paying for :) )

I am a generous person and take care of my bartenders and waitresses.....shoot me.

I want one muchly buuuut ... is there a seperate bar there or can I get it to go? I have no desire to eat at Ohana's as they have very little for me to select from due to my diet.

We drink these but do not eat at Ohana's for dinner either.
You just pick them up at the bar in the Polynesian lobby (not inside the restaurant). :thumbsup2

Actually, the drink is called "Lapu", but
. . . After 2 of them, you have a tendency to stutter.
. . . After 3 of them, you have a tendency to fall a lot.
. . . After 4 of them, you have a tendency to sleep for a long period.

NOTE: Contrary to other stories, the drink was named after a famous Poly chieftan who slept a lot and had trouble walking. Once, when he had a bad flu, and only drank juices, both symptoms cleared up. For some reason, after the flu, when he took fluids other than juices, the symptons re-appeared.

You can get them at Tambu Lounge (attached to Ohana), and Kona Cafe as well! I had mine at Kona Cafe--a place with a great menu, BTW.

Can a virgin version of this be ordered or maybe one with less alcohol and more juice?
