Hi All- I'm a long time lurker but first time poster here on the DIS. DH and I just found out that we are expecting our first baby next year. We have decided to announce the pregnancy once we hit 12 weeks which coincidentally is the day we get back from our Disney Trip! We'd like to announce to our families when we get together to hand out souvenirs from the world. Does anyone have any ideas of things we can buy that will clue in the soon to be grandparents and aunts and uncles? I'm wondering if there is special grandparent merchandise or maybe something baby we can give to them that will share our news?

Thanks in Advance!

Camilla :goodvibes

They sell these adorable (can't think of all the characters now) but like little baby characters wrapped up in a blanket. I see them at the WOD story all the time - that would be a fun way to do it.

Good Luck and here's to a happy and healthy 9!!

First - Congratulations!! Your Disney trips are about to change forever. Disney is wonderful as a couple, but every time I see Disney through the eyes of my boys it takes my breath away!

The stuffed animals the previous poster mentioned is a good idea. My mom brought back a baby pluto for my youngest DS while I was pregnant with him. They also have infant sized Mickey ears - the original black ears and I believe they have pink and blue.

Is this a first grandchild? You could get the grandparents ears with "grandma" and "grandpa" embroidered on them.

Lots of places have personalized items - in particular I'm thinking of the Christmas shop in DTD. Maybe a "baby's 1st christmas" ornament for 2009?

I hope you have a wonderful pregnancy!

I love the idea of hats with Grandpa and Grandma (or whatever you will call them) embroidered on the hat.

Congrats on your baby! What a wonderful life change.

I'd get "My First Mickey Ears" and then come home and host a "Family Dinner" and let the new grandparents open the gift together.

oooohhh I like that idea better.. Mickey ears with "Grandma", "Grandma", "Papa", etc.. embroidered on them - whatever you plan on having your baby call them. Have a family dinner and give them to them in front of everyone

Because my dad and DH's dad are both golfers, I got golf balls that said "It's a Girl" with Minnie and "It's a Boy" with Mickey and gave those to them.

I don't know if you have your heart set on doing it when you get home, but you could always tell them while you are there. I can't think of a more magical place to tell someone they are going to be grandparents than at WDW. If you are planning on eating at Coral Reef and can get a diver, you could announce it that way. If you can get a diver. If your eating at CRT, I know they do special things for engagements. Maybe if you speak to their special occasions people they can work something out with you. You could buy some baby related item and have them deliver it to the table. Another way might be to get a cake delivered to one of your dinners announcing it. Maybe with something like " Congratulations on the future Princess or Prince (or Pirate). Of those I like the cake option the best. You could do this on your first night there, so you don't have to spend the trip explaining why you don't want to ride certain rides. Also you can do some shopping for the baby on the trip, and the grandparents get a chance to get in some Disney spoiling early.
I also like the idea of the Mickey hats. I don't know if you could fit "Aunt (insert name)" or "Uncle (insert name)", but I guess you could just do Aunt and Uncle for the future aunts and uncles.

I don't really have any good ideas for you, but I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS! And have a great time on your vacation!

Congrats, OP! That is fantastic news!

Just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly. The grandparents and aunts and uncles won't be in WDW with you, right?

i took the OP to mean that the relatives would not be on the trip with them.... was i mistaken?

Everyone is giving you great ideas! I just wanted to wish you congratulations!

As a previous poster stated...Disney is about to change forever. Wait until you get to see it thru the eyes of your little one. Your heart will melt.

Best wishes and blessings for a happy & healthy pregnancy!

The Christmas shop in DTD has tons of baby's 1st stuff...and since your trip is not too far before Christmas, I would get each grandparent something small and wrap it up, and wait for them to figure it out. They also have "World's Greatest Nana" (and Grandma, Grandpa, etc) Christmas ornaments ( I know this because my son bought his Nana one last year)...that would be cute, too.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Disney, and life, will never be the same.

Even if your family isn't coming, you could have the diver hold up the sign, take a picture of it and show them the picture. I love the ears idea too! Congrats!

A friend of ours found out her daughter was pregnant when she gave them a gift of a book about grandparenting and a framed photo of the ultrasound. It was cute! Good Luck and Congrats!!!

I like the hat idea with grandma and grandpa, i don think you could do any better than that idea.......

Wow, first of all thanks for all the great ideas! I'm even more excited to do this now. The trip we're taking is just DH and I. We will be telling the family when we get back from the trip. I love the idea of the ears!

Thanks again for the ideas and warm wishes!

If you are eating at the Coral Reef, you can call the manager and ask to have a specialty menu made up. Put pictures of your parents with the caption under it reading something like,"Granparents of the year 2009" or whatever you may think of. Mybe the two of you holding a sign announcing the big day. You are allowed up to six pictures. Then bring them home and put in the box with what everyone else has suggested. Congratulations and a blessed and healthy pregnancy!

The thing about the ears is that you don't know what the baby is going to call his/her relatives. My granddaughter calls her maternal grandmother "other grandmother" because everyone on the planet calls her maternal great-grandmother "grandma" (even us - my son didn't even know who I was talking about when I called her by her first name). She calls us by our first names since our son is her stepfather. And we have no idea what our new grandson is going to call us. He'll have way too many grandmothers in his life (it's a very blended family) to call me "Grandma" and he lives with his "other grandmother" and that's what his sister calls her. My husband could be called "Da" since that's what my daughter-in-law calls him. But we don't know.

I'm going to be a bit practical. Get some baby clothes while you are there. Wrap them up and tell everyone they can give them back at your baby shower in five months. Or, get some baby bottles and fill them with candy. Tell your relatives they can have the candy but you will need the bottles back in six months.
