My daughter is doing a dance solo for her studio in March and April. Looking for ideas for this. Or artsts.

Some ideas so far:
Shop Around
Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend
Get the Party Started – Pink (with the one bad word dubbed out)

Other ideas?
Any music is good!

SHANIA TWAIN LYRICS

"Man! I Feel Like A Woman!"

I'm going out tonight-I'm feelin' alright
Gonna let it all hang out
Wanna make some noise-really raise my voice
Yeah, I wanna scream and shout
No inhibitions-make no conditions
Get a little outta line
I ain't gonna act politically correct
I only wanna have a good time

The best thing about being a woman
Is the prerogative to have a little fun and...

Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy-forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts-short skirts
Oh, oh, oh, really go wild-yeah, doin' it in style
Oh, oh, oh, get in the action-feel the attraction
Color my hair-do what I dare
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!

The girls need a break-tonight we're gonna take
The chance to get out on the town
We don't need romance-we only wanna dance
We're gonna let our hair hang down

The best thing about being a woman
Is the prerogative to have a little fun and...

Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy-forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts-short skirts
Oh, oh, oh, really go wild-yeah, doin' it in style
Oh, oh, oh, get in the action-feel the attraction
Color my hair-do what I dare
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!

Color my hair-do what I dare

Man! I feel like a woman!

I get totally crazy
Can you feel it
Come, come, come on baby
I feel like a woman

Can I ask what style of dance she is doing?

I have seen younger girls do Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend and personally I think that song is too old for 10 yearolds. It's more suited to teenager.

Now I saw a group of really young girls (about 6-7 years old) do Shop Around and they were very cute and bouncy.

Great question!

She is actually trying to decide between bouncy jazzy hiphoppy and
lyrical/ballet ish.

But I think she is tending to pick songs like Get the Party Started or
Shop Around, because she can do some cute character stuff.
Diamonds are a girls best friend is neither fast enough or slow enough
we are thinking!

To do Get the Party Started we would remove one verse and replace
with instrumental.

:earsgirl:

sounds like as much fun as trying to decide what dd11 can figure skate to!!! :confused3 :goodvibes :goodvibes good luck!! shop around would be cute.

If she wanted to be different she could do a combination of bouncy jazzy hiphop AND lyrical/balletish in the same song.

Get the Party Started is a good song. If you are going to remove a verse and put instrumental in there, make it something a bit slower that she could do more ballet/lyrical style movements to.

Combining the two styles can make a very nice routine.

The version of Diamonds from Moulin Rouge might work

Beach baby
Hey Good Lookin What ya got Cookin
(I am all about pickin oldies for dances, cheering etc... they always get my attention!)

My daughter is 14 and I have helped pick out her lyrical music the last 3 years. I tend to go back to the 80's and early 90's. This year my daughters song is by Ozzy and Lita Ford "Close my eyes forever", she has used "Show me the Way" by Styx and "Shoulder to Cry on" by Tommy Page the judges have often commented positively on her choice of music at competition.

how about "I enjoy being a girl" It might be a little mature but it is SUCH a cute song

Just adding my .02. I think some of the songs mentioned here are a bit old for a 10 year old, especially "Man I feel like a woman"

As someone who danced for the better part of 20 years, I know the challenges of choosing music. Have you or your daughter considered any of the Disney ballads? Those from Mulan, Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, etc. They would make for beautiful lyrical/ballet types numbers and she could easily do character references as well.

Good luck and be sure to let us know what daughter ends up choosing!!

What about "You Can't Stop the Beat" from the b'way musical "Hairspray". It is SOO cute, and really up tempo....she could do some great stuff with that.

My suggestion would be:

Material Girl by Madonna or
Uptown Girl by Billy Joel
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper

There are a lot of different props she could use with either of those songs:

--a feather boa
--a purse that she she could swing
--a shopping bag
--a faux fur coat for part of the dance that she could wear or carry over her shoulder

There is also a very cute song called "I Wanna Make the World Laugh" off of the Mack & Mabel musical soundtrack. If your DD has a strong personality with a lot of character, pizzaz & showmanship it could be a really cute, entertaining dance - different from the norm also.

Good luck - I'll keep my thinking cap on if you need more ideas.

That is a great song to dance to. Two of my students used it last year & I had a great time choreghraping it. A really fun song.

My gosh you guys are wonderful!

We plan to have an afternoon of listening to music and will report back. If something else comes to you, by all means, share!

For a lyrical piece, what about the song after the EPCOT fireworks? We'll Go On sticks in my head, it is a pretty song and a good "hopeful" song.

Knock On Wood - I danced to this song with a group of friends at a school talent show and it went down a storm :teeth
