We are going to wdw in sept. its a surprise to DS7. He thinks we are going to the IOW. thats fine until we set off for the airport, as he knows we'll have to get a ferry if we go to IOW.
one way i thought of a way around it, was to say on the morning 'sorry, IOW is cancelled; so we're going to go and see grandad in guersney instead'. DH doesn't think he'll believe us, as the planes to guernsey are only 60 seaters. i said we'll just tell him its going to be a bigger plane because there are more people, but DH said that wont work.
can anyone think of a more creative/believable reason why we would be going to the airport instead. i want to keep it a secret from DS for as long as we can. i realise the game will no doubt be up when the Disney commercial plays on the seatback tv on board the plane - although i'm sure theres a way around that one too.....
any ideas are appreciated

We had planned to keep our trip in Sept a surprise but ended up telling them last month as we were so excited about it we wanted to share that with them. We wanted to enjoy talking about the rides etc and now they know it's all we talk about - it's fantastic!

We told them via a treasure hunt with the prize being small disney gifts and a Disney count down calender we'd made for them.

When we had planned to keep it a suprise one of our ideas to get them to the airport was to say that Daddy was working away for a week so we were going to be seeing him off - this would explain suit cases and checking in etc.
We had always planned to tell them after check in as we weren't convinced we could get any further without them catching on. Out 6 year old is always listening to adults talk so i'm sure she would have sussed it out once we got there! ;)

I'm sure some others will be on with plenty of ideas so good luck with it all - sounds fun! :thumbsup2

A big ACME rubber mallett will knock him cold for a few hours.

Dunno really, is he easy to bluff?

When we went as a family with my parents and sis and her kids for Dads 65th we did not tell our boys that we were going, we told them that we were going to stay on a farm and nearer the time that on our way we were going to see Nanna and Grandad off at the airport. My parents were in on it and they checked in and we all went for brekkie at Mc d's, whilst eating my Dad said to the boys that it was a real shame that we could not all go to WDW together, and did they think that the Virgin lady could get us on the plane!!! the boys got really excited and wanted to go and ask. In advance Dad had written a note out to explain to the check in clerk what was happening etc, Dad told the boys to wait where they were and he would speak to the lady - he gave her the note and she was excellent, really played along and pretended to look it up on computer etc and then called the boys over and told them they could go to WDW if they wanted as there was just 4 seats left on the plane. It was really magical and I have it all on video and still have the note that Dad wrote the boys truely had no idea that we were all going anyway.

Now that would require a full box of tissues for me! How wonderful!

:rotfl2:
sometimes he can be quite gullable.
later in the day after i posted this thread, DS was talking about our trip, and said something about the airplane on the way to IOW. So this may be plausible after all. the best thing about this is if anyone asks him 'are you looking forward to seeing Mickey', he still won't know any different as I have a uncle Mick (called Mickey by family/freinds) who lives on IOW, and DS thinks we are going to go and visit him. as long as no-one adds the mouse to the end of that sentence we'll be fine. just to be on the safe side i was planning on writing on a piece of paper 'kids don't know where we're going' that i will hand over with passports when checking in.

Tell him he is flying into Bembridge Airport, as it worked out cheaper than the ferry.

Unless he is not very observant you wont get far into the airport in reality until he finds out.

At check in or bag drop they will ask you which flight you are on.

Assuming he misses that once you get to the gate the destination will be on the screen and of course they will announce boarding as well.

Finally the cabin crew and probably the pilot will all gicve the game away over the tannoy before take-off.

Sorry to be a killjoy :)

Maybe you could convince him there is an Orlando on Guernsey ?

Our DD (9) believes we have to go on a plane to Butlins :thumbsup2 Guillible = yes! Our children dont know about this trip either,we have told them we are looking at going on holiday but not sure, where and when..They however was told last year that was our last Disney holiday for a while (however we changed our minds) :goodvibes

Why don't you tell him beforehand and let him get excited? Part of the fun of going is knowing that you are.

We had intended keeping our first trip with the children, in Oct 2003, a secret too. But we decided against it, because we didn't want to take the excitement and build up away from them (they were 6 and 9 at the time).

We had booked a year in advance and told them at a special July 4th themed tea in which we had a treasure trail around the house and garden, where they picked up clues and letters which eventually spelt out ORLANDO. They enjoyed the treasure trail and getting in on the last minute planning.
