I really want to surprise DD5 with our first mother/daughter trip Oct 3 - 6. We are both Halloween fanatics and will be doing MNSSHP on the 5th. We are staying at POFQ. Have dinner ressies Friday night at 1900 PF and on Sunday at LTT before the party. Saturday is just a "wing it" day depending on what we feel like doing & the weather....maybe a water park, maybe DHS. Who knows. Oh, and we are flying down so no car.

So, how can I surprise her with the trip? I will pick her up from school on Thursday afternoon and after cheer practice, we'll head to the hotel across from the airport to spend the night because we have a 6:00 AM flight  She's a sharp kid and not much gets by her so just getting us packed without her inquisition will be a challenge for me.

Any thoughts on how I pull this off? Ideally, I would like her to just "get it" when we land in Orlando and head off to catch ME to our hotel. She'll remember the airport since we were there in Feb and once she starts seeing all the Disney stuff.

Any great ideas out there???

if she is that sharp it's going to be impossible to get her on a plane without her knowing that you are going to Florida. Can you give her a cover story for another reason you are going to Florda and NOT going to Dinsey? A sudden work trip or something like that?

I can do a cover for staying in the hotel the night before by telling her that we are going on a trip to see her Ema & Pap Pap (we always fly when we do), but, I am almost thinking that since we have a 6:00 AM flight, that the only way I'm going to get her out of bed at the crack of down is to yell "GET UP, WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD"......she's been begging to go back, so that may be what I end up having to do :cool1:

I don't mean to sound cruel but I do not get the whole surprise thing. I would much rather have a trip to think about, to dream about, and to get ready for. For me that is half the fun, falling asleep dreaming about Disney. Don't get me wrong I would never turn down a surprise trip, BUT I would much rather know about it ahead of time.

If you know about it ahead of time you could make some matching shirts together, or maybe get some other little things. You can map out your touring plans, and she can pour over the Unofficial Guidebook to see what's new.

didn't they cancel MNSSHP for the 5th?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....they cancelled the one on the 3rd (Friday night). Believe me, I've called zillion times (including today when I changed my package) to ask because I planned my whole weekend around the 5th ;)

I get ya, but my daughter is 5, obsessed with Disney, and the Princesses, and when Santa brought her her invitation to WDW for Christmas for our trip this past February...she drove me BANANAS for the entire month before we left. Thank God for countdown calendars because that saved me on a daily basis, but I can't go through that again. Plus, she starts Kindergarten on Monday :sad2: and I want her focused on that for now. Besides, she loves surprises. I could literraly put a dollar store coloring book in a gift bag and she'd go bonkers and thank for me days.

Have you thought about having Tink come and visit her at the hotel with a gift basket of stuff for the trip? (That's what we do...pic in my PTR...hint, hint ;) ) I doubt you'll get her all the way to Florida w/o her knowing. My DD would know that the sign says Orlando and would certainly pick up on them announcing it on the plane).

No ideas here but I see you are from South Louisiana also. Thats Parish Fair weekend in our parish (St Tammany) and we usually take DD to Gulf Shores then. We are planning our next trip over the Mardi Gras holidays.

Have fun!

Hmmmm....perhaps a scaled down tink gift bag (Tink went a little nuts huh ;) ) would work to have in the car when I pick her up from school? Adding this to my list of trip things......THANKS!!

I am all about the surprises! My kids love em. This next trip we are not telling them about--this will make the 4th surprise for them. They know we are going at some point, but it drives them nuts to know it's looming SO FAR in the distance!! They really don't like the whole count down thing.

Anyway, I always get the laundry caught up and stay on top of it for the week before, so I can know who needs what. You can do this so you can pack her stuff while she's at school. I have had dh take them out to eat and a movie when the oldest was younger. Now he would wonder where all his clothes went!!

I also keep tiny travel stuff in a box in the back of my bathroom cabinet so I can pull them out for any trip-or when a tube of toothpaste only has a few days left, stuff like that, then some of it can just be chunked before you leave the room. This will help with the sneakies!!!

I would definitely not tell her before you get to the room!! Maybe after dinner that evening would be a good time. If not 6 a.m. is gonna come awfully early!!
The last 2 times, I just told them the day before-this way they could pack their backpacks with a few things to do on the plane and help make sure they had all the stuff on the packing list. I made one for each kid-it helps to have a few small people double checking with you!!!

Have a wonderful mom-daughter weekend--sounds great!!!

Ya, Tink goes a little crazy. BUT, it's all stuff I would have bought for the trip anyway so it works well because DD gets surprised with all of it!
