OK, I need to fill stockings for my Mom (69) and my Grandmother (92) this year. I can't do candles due to one of them using oxygen and for some reason I'm drawing a blank.

So far I have:

Lottery Tickets (scratch off)
No-Slip Fuzzy Socks
Small hand lotion

As you can see I'm not zooming along here so any input would be grand!

How about a magazine she might enjoy?
Candies or mints?
Tea or coffee (the small, specialty type)?

Since you already have the lottery tickets, how about gift cards to a supermarket? A roll of stamps? Candy bars? Might sound young, but a cute little stuffed animal???

I like your sock idea!

sounds dirty

I had MATURE first, but I figured someone would say it sounded bad! :rotfl:

You guys are so great, I'm adding your ideas to my list. HeatherFeather - thanks for the link, I'm going to buy for my Mom!

i gave my mom a subscription to her favorite tabloid (you can get short term subscriptions to weeklys to keep costs down).

also-books of stamps (mom always runs out), package of greeting cards (i get the ones that don't reflect a specific occasion so she can use them for anything-they cost so much to buy individualy for all the bdays, anniversaries and such she likes to remember), a BIG SQUARED calendar (for her to record her md appointments and such), some small packages of goodies she's not 'allowed' to eat large amounts of (individual packages of pepparage farm chocolate covered cookies, hershey kisses, cheddar cheese gold fish, small hard salami or summer sausage). i also include a small bottle of her favorite liquor to keep on hand (she's loves to offer a nip of brandy for 'holiday cheer' to guests, so i give her a small bottle to keep on hand :teeth: ).

How about puzzle books? My mom really likes the crossword puzzle ones.

hard candy/mints (sugar-free)
gloves
tea
magnet shopping list pads for fridge
small jars of assorted jams
perfume
voice recorder

I took care of my elderly relatives till death then took a job where I was the "resident grandchild" of 100 women and 80 men!! I loved it!

They LOVE personalized things. It shows you really thought about them and care. I get little jotter pads every year from Walter Drake or personalized key chains or note cards from the dollar store. They know you didn't just pick up something, you truly thought about it.

If they like to send cards to people how about an assortment of those along with printed address labels and stamps.

Some things I have gotten for my Nana's stocking : a cute coffee mug, search-a-word book, potpourri, her favorite candy. I will also be getting a big pack of pens and a few pairs of scissors, I can never find a good pen when I'm there and her scissors are usually "borrowed" by other family members. One year we got her an electronic handheld Wheel of Fortune game, it was simple to operate and she loved it.

Other ideas: a scented sachet (Yankee Candle has some nice ones), a tape/cd of holiday music or their favorite music, magnifying glass, mini reading lamp, ornaments, mini framed photo of their family/pets/favorite place, or pretty much anything from Bath and Body Works.

If they have a CD player a couple CD's of artists they might like, Bing Crosby, Sinatra, the Everly Brothers...

Gift certificates for Friendly's, Cracker Barrel, or another similar restaurant.

My grandmom loves search word books and grocery store giftcards. She loves to use the grocery store giftcards! In fact last year I had to give her cash because the grocery store ran out of cards and she was disappointed!

See my grandmother would nver go into a restaurant. She feels that it is a waste and refuses to go. But she will take a grocery store giftcard.

perhaps a giftcard to where they get their prescriptions from. such as cvs, target, walmart..

Between my mom and dad they refill 10 medicines a month.. so Im getting them a giftcertificate to cvs to help pay their copays.. They wont take money from me but since they fill their medicines there they will use it to help pay for them..

Maybe some hard candies that they like or even in the mall there is a Hickory Farms at christmas time.. they have small packages.. with cheeses and sausage and stuff.. you can open the package as they usually have them in a basket or something and then wrapped.. that way you can fit the stuff in the stocking.. or even figis has some nice ones for not bad price..

Maybe a cute little christmas disney ornament.. disney shopping has some cute ones..

Pens or pencils, sample size lotions, soaps from bath and body works, godiva chocolates, puzzlebooks, small purse size calendar (michaels has these for $1)..

Stuff I've gotten for DM's stocking/St. Nicholas Day Shoes:
mints
cheap poncho (I "borrowed" her when I went to WDW)
Suduko book
Antibacterial hand sanitizer

I'll probably get:
Cuticle cream
Nail polish
Gloves
Those skinny glasses
Sun glasses
Sunscreen
Lip balm

These are great ideas. Keep them coming. I'm also looking for ideas for my DM. :thumbsup2

My DM is in her seventies and we have had to look a little harder for gifts, but here are a few that we found were well recieved:

Those thin fleece blankets you can get at walmart, they seem to be just the right thickness to wrap around them while sitting around the house.

Scunci pillows, we thought these things were weird at first but DM has asked for another one to add to the pile every single year since we gave them to her.

Here are the two that went over the best for us:

One year we added two jars of preserves from the trappist monks and she was tickled to get them.

We went to the local cracker and filled a stocking with classic candies. (You'll know which ones they are when you see them) and labeled it as her private stash. She tells everybody about that gift saying it reminded her of when she was a little girl.

BTW if you really like the idea of candles then switch them over to tarts with an electric tart warmer (Yet another gift we gave.)

a big fat writing pen (my grandma always said pens were too skinny to hold on to)

a word find puzzle book

little hankies

mints

eye glasses cleaner

books of stamps

gift card to grocery store

address labels with their name and address

magnetic tablet for the frig

those clear frames for the frig -- they have a magnet on the back
