Last night I put a roast (premarinated from the store, don't remember the cut, but it was cut like a thick steak) into the crockpot. I got a late start, so my plan was to cook on high about 2 hours and then on low for another few hours until it got tender.

Well, DH, for whatever reason, unplugged the whole thing. I didn't notice until late..too late at night to deal with. I took it out of the fridge today to check it..... it did cook through, but it is TOUGH AS LEATHER!!!! I don't think it was the cut. The marinated store meats are usually very good.

It's a shame to waste it (aka dog food). Do any of you have experience rescuing meat???!!!???? Should I recrock it? Bake it in a soup? Chop it up for the dog?

Thanks!

Throw it back in the crockpot for a few more hours - it will come out fork tender...eventually! :-)

How about grinding it and making a sauce that would match the marinade? EG: add to tomato sauce if it was italian flavored- serve with pasta or make into a calzone or pizza, add BBQ sauce, or add to a stir fry with hoisen or soy sauce.

Or add to a soup. Or make hash - mix with mashed potatoes and carrots; fry in skillet - serve with ketsup.

You could do quite a lot with ground meat.

Did you refridgerate the meat? If not, I think it will some yummy food for the dog.

BTW, love your name :)
