We're staying at BCV in March for a week and this is the first time we'll be in a two bedroom. Can anyone offer advice for what to bring for a 2 BR villa vacation that would be different from a normal packing list (if we were just staying in a regular hotel room or even a DVC studio)?

Thanks!

You will have a washer & dryer in the 2BR. I usually pack some dryer sheets plus some extra detergent (there will be one box of Tide in the unit).

That's about the only thing I pack that's different than when staying in a studio.

The biggest change if you are in a 2BR vs a studio is definitely the washer/dryer. What does this mean? You can bring MUCH less clothing than you would typically for a one week stay. Having the washer/dryer in the villa makes it very easy to keep up with the laundry, freshen up clothes, etc.

Of course you'll have a full kitchen but I don't think that will affect your packing list much, unless you used to bring things to cook in while staying in a studio.

Good luck for your trip...and be warned. Once you move up to a 1BR or 2BR from a studio, many find it hard to go back! :)

If you brew your own coffee, bring enough coffee filters for the number of pots you think you'll make. The standard basket-style filters should suffice. It seems like a small concern, but it's just one more thing you'd have to buy if you get groceries while in Orlando, and if you're like I am, every penny counts on a Disney trip!

Yes, this is the kind of information I am looking for. What about toiletries, do we get an initial round of shampoo/conditioner?

Is there a DVD player? Should be we bring a few of our favorites for dd2 to watch during "down time"

What else?

Yes there is a DVD player. We usually have a few for the trip.

There is the initial shampoo and conditioner, but unlike a hotel, it isn't sufficient for a trip (unless you trip is really short).

Our packing list:
Salt and Pepper
Cereal
Coffee
Sugar
Detergent (we buy a box at the dollar store of the cheapy stuff)
Dryer sheets
Coffee filters
Small peanut butter
Small jelly
Toiletries (including shampoo and conditioner)

Pick up at the store (we just use the DVC store cause its such a small list)
Milk
Eggs
Half and Half
Bread
Orange Juice
Don't worry about:

Dishwasher detergent or cleaning supplies (unless you are the type to bring your own Lysol).

About the DVD's - we like to go and "rent" the DVD's. All the old time favorites are there - plus new movies. Last time we watched the origian Herbie movie, and the new one. Lot's of fun watching the old movies that I grew up with.

Another thing - if I plan to cook - I will bring a baggie of spices. Example. We had a bunch of people we invited over to eat dinner so I planned a big spaghetti and meatball feast. So I brought the spices for the sauce in a little ziploc baggie.

Salt and Pepper

Funny story. We were staying at a Marriott resort one time and read that we were supposed to have salt & pepper. We looked high and low but couldn't find them. So we called the front desk and someone showed up a few minutes later... with the shakers. Took us a few minutes to figure out the list was just for the containers not the actual spices.

Now we carry a two pack of Morton salt&pepper in their own throwaway containers.

Also, you can pick up travel size ketchup, mustard & mayo for hot dogs and sandwiches.

Don't overpack or overbuy food items though. We always seem to eat out and bring home leftovers. Except for cereal and coffee we never eat new stuff.

If you drive, just bring your remaining laundry soap and fluff sheets. Deposit them by the washer/dryer when you arrive.

Ok...this is all great info! We probably won't cook...but would do breakfast and coffee. We'll do a grocery trip when we get down there for some basics- soda, creamer, decent coffee, etc.

We're flying, but renting a car when we get there.....

How many loads of laundry might I do in a week (with two small children and two grandparents...and me and dh, of course)?

We generally throw in a load on our way to the parks and move it to the dryer at dinnertime - so one a day. Either towels or clothes or something. I do more laundry on vacation than I do at home - which shocked me, but the machine is right there.

a bottle of champagne, some candles and grown up bubble bath for the jacuzzi.

No charge for DVC members renting videos, guess it's not renting if there is no charge, you get the idea. Toiletries are not replenished as they are in a hotel, you'll need to bring your own or buy some at tourist prices, same with coffee filters mentioned before around $3.00 for a small pack I pay .99 for 100 at home. If you have a car there is plenty of shopping close by or you can use one of the grocery services you'll find on this board. Prices are much better than Disney stores. I always buy the disney coffee and a matching cup, little collection, I have them lined up in kitchen, thought I had them all but then they came out with a new flavor coffee. You'll also want some bath oil or bubble bath (not to much) for the tub in master bedroom. Wine you'll have to buy when you get there, with the new carry on restrictions. Previous post was right it's real hard to go back to a studio.

I supppose this is as good a place as any to ask:

In the 1BR and 2BR villas...are there any pitchers? You know...like to mix iced tea in?

Thereis 1 in the 1 bedroom, never stayed in a 2 bdr don't know if you get another one.

New to DVC (since last Aug) and have a 2 week trip planned at BWV in June. I am trying to decide if I want to do the DDP.

We weren't DVC members last year, and did the DDP, which was great (although we left with 2 sit downs not used...)

What is everyone finding who are DVC members? Is it better to do the DDP if you have a kitchen or is it better to plan to cook meals? Curious about everyone's opinion...

THANKS!!!

When we are staying for any length of time, I pack a king sized fitted sheet. DH HATES the flat sheet as the bottom sheet (he is really anal about it). At our last stay at OKW, I understood better--the person who made our bed used a queen sized flat sheet, which ended somewhere near our knees, leaving the bottom part of our legs touching the mattress pad--didn't feel good!

I always pack little nightlights to help us see the bathroom at night.

My first DVC stay will be in a 2-bedroom this May. I am very excited about it.

Thanks for all the tips so far :thumbsup2 !

Subscribing for the great info.

Also, I hate to throw out perfectly good leftovers (detergent, dryer sheets, spices, ziploc bags, etc) but once I get some souvenirs, I don't seem to have room for the other "non-essentials". I would love to give them to some other family at DVC that can use them. Any suggestions?

We always UPS a box down and make a grocery stop for milk, bread wine & beer. Everything including laundry detergent, zipper bags, ponchos, bottom sheets, coffee, filters, poptarts, paper cups, glow sticks, & snacks gets shipped. Learned to pack way way less in luggage and do a load of wash daily.
