As it stands right now, I'll be in WDW early next year for my 40th birthday! I'm trying to decide on where to have my birthday meal. A couple things you should know. First, it is just my wife and I. No kiddos to worry about. However, my wife is a bit of a picky eater, so it has to be some place that she can get something fairly "normal". Seafood and various ethnic foods are in play as well. Also, we are simple folk. Places like Victoria and Albert's or California Grill do nothing for us. We don't want to get all dolled up on vacation. We're thinking more along the lines of Rose and Crown, Beaches and Cream, Yak and Yeti. You know, nice, but not nice. If that makes any sort of sense. So let's hear it! Where should I celebrate my 40th birthday?!?

That sounds like a fantastic birthday celebration! So you're looking for table service but not signature dining - plenty of good options to explore. Be Our Guest at Magic Kingdom (for dinner) has a great atmosphere or any of the world showcase table service options (top of mind - Restaurant Marrakesh, Chefs de France). I'm sure you're going to have a fabulous time!

We went to 'Ohana for my 40th birthday dinner. Chefs de France or Biergarten were my other possibilities. Be Our Guest would be a great option like pp recommended. I haven't been to the Wave at the Contemporary but it is on my to-do list. Maybe the Grand Floridian Cafe. There are several new restaurants in Disney Springs that are supposed to be good but I am not familiar enough to recommend any. Raglan Road is always a good standby.

I would do someplace fun.
Ohana
Biergarten
Via Napoli (We had someone's birthday there and love the way they sing)
how about the new place in MK - Skippers Canteen - that seems like it would be fun - not sure if your wife will like the food
We also love Boma - they have ethnic food but also some plain carved meats.

Enjoy your birthday.

Ive never been yet but Homecoming Kitchen (new place at Disney Springs) sounds nice :) I'm looking forward to trying it myself in December.

I would suggest Boma. They have a nice combination of food that is plain and ethnic and you can see the savannahs at AKL before or after the meal.

Sounds like you're just like us, I am a pretty picky eater and like the simple places as well.. Some of our faves are Hoop dee doo (they make a big deal out of birthdays too!), Ohana, Via Napoli, Trattoria Al Forno
