We have a bottom freezer (Sub-Zero) and love it. It is more efficient (hot air rise - compressor on the top/cold air falls - freezer) and you use the fridge more often.

That's exactly why we bought a bottom freezer. We have a GE Profile bottom freezer (about 3 years old) and we haven't had any problems with it. You can fit A LOT in those freezers. We have fit a whole sheet cake in there once on top of the already filled shelves. I also like having the fridge at eye level. Things that go bad don't tend to stay in the fridge as long because you can see everything much easier. Also the door holds a gallon of milk!

I still can't decide!!

Why do they trust me with these decisions!!

Because you're the mama. Moms always make the hard decisions. We wouldn't have it any other way, LOL!

I just built a new home and went with all GE appliances. I have the refridge in the picture, OP!!! I love it. It is not big and bulky and I love the water/crushed ice/ice cubes in the door. I actually had the Poland Springs cooler/dispenser and water bottles and cancelled that service when we got the new refridge. My refridge is PROFILE and my stove is ADORA and my dishwasher is a TRITON and my microwave is just a GE???? I got them all at the same time, all are identical but so many different names...hmmm...actually just realized that... :confused3 ...anyway love them all. They are all in SS!

That is what I like about the profile....it is so unobtrusive and not bulky. It looks more 'custom' since the space won't take a built in.

You may be convincing me!

I hate our bottom mount freezer. You always need to dig through items to get something.

We have the LG french door/with freezer on the bottom. We love it! Things do not get lost in the back of the refrigerator-it's all at eye level. The bottom freezer drawer pulls all the way out-sometimes you might have to "dig" as another poster said, but in the top freezer don't you have to shift things around also to reach what's in the back? The finish on the LG is called "titanium" which looks like stainless but no fingerprints!

Contrary to popular opinion, I HATE my bottom mount refrigerator. The freezer section is just way to small and such a huge pain to dig around in to find stuff. I would never buy one again unless I had a separate large freezer.

My next fridge will be the wide side-by-side by Maytag like this one: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/universal-akb/MZD2663KES.jpg

And I got black appliances because I was afraid of fingerprints...well I regret that too because all I see now is DUST!

I just wanted to add...my parents live in Maine for the summer on an Island and my family just spent the holiday with them (4 days), they have the bottom freezer (I believe it is a Sears/Kenmore) and I find it difficult to get at the food in the freezer. I spent allot of time re-arranging items as I was in there getting meals for the holiday weekend w/fam. The top portion is quite large and really perfect for them but that bending over and digging through and moving items around the freezer was difficult. BUT then again their top portion is ONE door and huge! Now my DS was just here and he is 24yo and I asked him how he likes Gram's refridge or our GE and he said.."Oh, mom, I love that refridge of Gram's".....

So there is my DS for the bottom freezer and me for my GE Profile.

My mom has a bottom mount freezer, so I know it will work for us...in fact, I prefer it for usage. That particular model has a HUGE shallow drawer for the top drawer, so I would put the stuff I used frequently there. It also has this really big deli drawer which I love.

I like the look of the GE better though. It looks so sleek. A pizza box does fit. We tried it. It is the same as we have now, so I know it will work. I fit everything I need in our side by side.

Thanks for all the input!

I'd get a bottom mount. Side by sides are such a waste of space. They require more space internally for the insulation because you do have the fridge right next to a freezer on the longest edge possible. They are MUCH smaller inside than a standard or bottom mount freezer. Getting a side by side costs more, and you get less out of it. They also have issues with storing larger items (pizza box for example). They are definitely NEVER on my list of fridges to consider having.

I am in the market for a new 'fridge, too. I will definitely be getting an energy efficient model, which is what we've been buying for years. I hope to find a 'fridge only model, as we have convenientlly located freezers. I just don't want to get a Sub-Zero. I do plan to get a least one refrigerator drawer & we have a apartment size (dorm size) 'fridge for beverages.

I have had an Amana side by side--a humoungous one. It is lovely, but find the side by side makes for a deeper 'fridge, which I think is a PIA.
DSis has an Amana or KitchenAid bottom mount & loves it.

That said, she has a top of the line KitchenAid Gas stove/oven & it has been solidly a PIA. Oh, all the servicing has been covered, but why should a new appliance need 3 service calls in 1 year? Only DSis & my DNiece22 use the thing.

Good luck with yr planning! :thumbsup2

I have a stainless steel French door Jenn-Air refrigerator. I should have bought the deeper depth one. I find the top refrigerator is not deep enough.
That being said if I had to do it again I'd go with stainless side by side. I had a Hotpoint (yellow) side by side for 23 years. When I bought the Jenn-Air french door my second choice was a GE side by side.

I'm so glad you asked this question OP!

I'm in the market now, and thought I do some DIS research.

I know this is an old post, so which one did you decide to go with?

I like the side-by-side kind of fridge. Probably because that's all I've ever had and all anyone I know has.

So, I'm voting for the freezer-on-the-bottom one, so that I can hear how you like it. :)

That's the one I have and I'm very happy with it.
I hate the side by sides and I didn't want one with the ice/water on the door.
I love the bottom pull out freezer but I also have a huge freezer downstairs.

I just got a GE bottom mount freezer drawer. I saw a couple with doors, but liked the fact a drawer pulled all the way out. Plus a door's not banging into the wall. My husband likes store bought ice, so even though ours came with an ice maker we don't use it.
I'm so surprised how roomy the shelves in the fridge door is. This new 'fridge is smaller in size than our old side by side, but holds more. Go figure.

I picked the stainless because I really dislike the bottom freezers. Love my side by side!
