I'm trying to decide between these two refrigerators...any insight?

This is the Kitchen Aid Bottom Freezer. I can get it for $1450. I have never had a bottom mount and it might be fun to try. I worry that it might not look as good as one side is black.

This is the GE Profile that is SS wrapped. I think it will look better in the space as a whole side of the fridge will show. Also, the kitchen has lots of black accents and this matches the other appliances better. I can get it for $1898, so it is about $450 more.

Thanks for your input!

Your links don't work :(. I have a bottom freezer and I really love having the stuff that I use and need the most at eye level. The only problem with it the freezer on the bottom is that my 6-year old tends to climb into the refirgerator part to get things out instead of using a step stool.

My mom has the top one. I really like it. The only down side is that there is no ice/water in the door. I'd would totally switch to the bottom freezer one (which is what I grew up with) if it wasn't for that. My DS drinks water all day and I love that he can get it cold filtered from the fridge door all day.

I know my customers that I've sold fridges too have been generally happier with the GE Profiles than they have been with KitchenAid Bottom Mounts.

I'm at home right now waiting for the refrigerator delivery people. This is similar to the one I'm getting:

Nice!

I'm limited to a few options as I get a half off discount on just a few models.

I'd have to pay retail for most other models.

I am probably going to order this fridge in stainless.

I would prefer a different one (such as the GE profile the OP posted, but I have to find something that will fit in a 68 inch high space.

I would love to hear if anyone does NOT like the bottom freezer. I am in the fridge much more often than the freezer and I like having it at eye level.

I guess I am wondering about the icemaker.

Does the ice fall out all over the floor? The specs say the Ice maker is integrated with the ice keeper. I am hoping this would prevent the ice from escaping?

I love the bottom freezer style, but I would miss having the ice maker in the door option. So, unless you are looking at the newer bottom freezer style that have the ice maker in the door I would chose the GE one.

I'd get a bottom mount. Side by sides are such a waste of space. They require more space internally for the insulation because you do have the fridge right next to a freezer on the longest edge possible. They are MUCH smaller inside than a standard or bottom mount freezer. Getting a side by side costs more, and you get less out of it. They also have issues with storing larger items (pizza box for example). They are definitely NEVER on my list of fridges to consider having.

My current (now dead) refrigerator is an ANCIENT (probably 40yo) bottom-freezer GE. I knew the end was coming, which was why I had its replacement already picked out. I really love the bottom freezer, and I like the idea of the french doors, too, since my space is limited. My worry as I type this is that they won't be able to get it through my door since it's a good bit deeper (front to back) than my old one.

I got the french door one in white, but it also comes in black and stainless.

I've had a bottom freezer for about 3 years. I will never have anything else. :cool1:

I have the GE Profile. I don't have it in stainless but I love it. I would have gotten the French door style though, if they had been out with them at the time.

I'm mostly worried about the look of the bottom freezer one. It just seems like it is so bulky and all stainless.

I love the layout of the inside though.

I know this probably isn't an option but there are some french door fridges with ice/water in the door now. That would be the 'perfect' fridge in my book. I am on house #2 with a side-by-side and I HATE them. Our first one was SO SMALL you couldn't get anything into it. This one is bigger but it is still limited for space. I just put some ribs in to marinate and I had to rearrange the whole thing to make room for the pan. In a french door I could have EASILY put the pan on top of the milk jugs (for example) and not had to worry. I do like having the water/ice in the door, first house we have had with that. Everyone is drinking more water now.

I did not like the french door with ice maker as the ice maker took up WAY too much space in the fridge. We don't use a lot of ice, and I usually drink tap water, so that is not a big deal to us.

I have the GE Profile with French Doors in black. I LOVE it! I love the bottom freezer because it slides all the way out so you can easily see what's in it. I don't know if the Kitchen Aid is the same way or not, but mine has two sliding shelves plus the big basket part in the freezer. The ice does spill out sometimes if it gets too full. I never had ice and water in the door with my old frig, so that wasn't really an issue for us. The one I have does have a water dispenser right inside the door of the frig. No ice though. I just feel like I have a lot of space in the top part and I can see everything in both sections so easily. I'd definitely choose the bottom mount freezer.

By the way, I really wanted Stainless appliances when we built our house, but the budget just wasn't going to allow me to get the type of appliances I wanted to we decided to go with black and be able to afford the nicer stuff. I'm so glad we did. I think the black appliances look really sharp. Maybe you're already locked in to stainless because of the rest of your appliances, but if not, you might consider black if your worried about there being too much stainless. Plus if you have little kids, the stainless shows fingerprints very easily.

I actually don't like SS appliances. They just don't hold up well. I prefer black or white.

BUT, the home comes with all the other stuff in stainless, so I wanted to match. Also, the counters are black, so I worry it might be too much black.

I had black in the house we just sold and loved it.

We have a bottom freezer (Sub-Zero) and love it. It is more efficient (hot air rise - compressor on the top/cold air falls - freezer) and you use the fridge more often.

I have the GE Profile with French Doors ....

OK, my white one is now installed and "turbocooling..." but I can't figure out how to use the "Quick Space" shelf. There's nothing in the documentation about how to use it (just that it's there.) Can someone help me?

(Sorry for the hijack, Fresh Tressa, but I figure I'm keeping you bumped at the same time!)

Edit: Never mind; I finally figured out that you have to push up on the front before you can slide it back and under.
