So I was a knucklehead and booked room only at YC. Couldn't modify that to Free Dining and the only thing left was AK Savanna View. Help me love it! How bad are the busses? Why do you love it? Any advice would really be appreciated!

Giraffe outside the windows. Nuff said.

But buses are just fine. We've not had any complaints and have stayed there at various times for 15+ years.

You'll love it. The lobby and resorts are beautiful. Nothing like a cup of coffee and some zebras or giraffes. Wonderful dining options and pool.

Request lower floor, the foliage can block some views. You can also request which savannah you would like to view based on the animals you wish to see.

AKV is a fine resort, we are a founding member at AKV, worth a stay at least once. Some love it, others just ok. We like being closer to MK, Epcot, and DHS and for us the novelty of seeing animals has worn off.

Requests depends on what building you are in. For animal viewing I like the Arusha or Sunset savanna at Jambo although all are very decent there and at Kidani the Sunset savanna as the Pembe savanna does not have giraffe on it.

Bus to Epcot took us 15 minutes once the bus was loaded and headed out. DHS should be about the same or a bit less. MK a bit longer. AK only a few minutes. They have been sending individual buses to Kidani Village and Jambo House so you shouldn't have to worry about not getting on a bus. You can use either pool at AKV/AKL. There is a shuttle van that runs between the two areas or you can walk it in ten minutes or less. Both locations have nice viewing areas to watch the animals.

I'm a bit confused. Did you book the AK hotel or the DVC resort (AKVillas)? If you booked the hotel, you will be in Jambo House. My preference would be a low floor facing Arusha but rooms facing Arusha might be a separate booking category, I can't remember. A low floor facing Sunset would be good too.

If you booked AKV, did you book Jambo House or Kidani Village? If Jambo, you will be on the 5th floor. (All of the DVC rooms in Jambo House are on the 5th and 6th floors, with the 6th floor being Club Level.) I would request Arusha (first choice) or Sunset. If you booked Kidani Village, I would request Sunset Savanna, Low Floor, in that order. As KAT mentioned, a room facing Sunset is preferable to those that face Pembe because Pembe does not have giraffes or zebras. It does have other interesting animals (okapi, red river hogs) but I really enjoy the giraffes and zebras so I always make Sunset Savanna my first request when I book Kidani Village. I prefer a low floor to be closer to the animals.

Whether you booked the hotel or the DVC resort, you have access to the same facilities at the resort. With a Savanna View room, it can feel as if you've been transported somewhere else. The sights and sounds of drums and African music create a wonderful atmosphere. And in case you are concerned, there is no smell coming from the animals! The CMs do an excellent job of keeping the savannas clean. No smells, no flies.

We stayed at the AK hotel on our first trip to WDW. The AKV DVC resort did not exist at that time. I found it hard to leave the room to go to the parks because it was such a unique experience seeing giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, ankole cattle, ostriches and many other animals and birds roaming the grounds right outside my balcony. I still feel that way after many stays there. DH and I enjoy sitting out on our balcony at night with a glass of wine, looking around the savanna (it's lit up at night, moonlight bright) to see who is wandering around or snoozing near our balcony. Many of the animals are pretty active during the late evening and the CMs are still restocking food supplies, even up to 10:30 PM or so.

I love AKV! Request a lower floor, sunset savannah room near the bus stop to save yourself some walking. Book a dinner at Sanaa and watch the giraffes go by while you try the bread plate appetizer dipped in 12 different amazing sauces while having a wonderful glass of wine... :) Then go check out animals with night vision goggles outside. The pools are wonderful with a great splash pad/play area for small kids and a great water slide. Avatar Land is opening soon and you'll be close to the action! Bus service is actually better there than our recent stay at BCV (and my view of giraffes from my balcony was far better than my woods view at BCV). The only downside (in my opinion) is that you have to bus everywhere, but if this bothers you overly, Uber is pretty darn reasonable. (We have friends that Uber most places at Disney now because it's just faster and not terribly expensive- way cheaper than the VIP transportation pass). I really like the theming and colors of AKV and the food is pretty darn fabulous there. Location may be better at other places but theme is pretty hard to beat there! I'm sure you'll have a great time!!

I own at AKL and love it. It's my favorite place to stay on property. But not everyone thinks so. Some complain it's too far from everything. I like that it's a little secluded. Some complain about the buses. I actually don't mind them there and think they are WAY better than the buses at OKW or SSS.
It can be far to walk from the lobby to your room but again, I've had just as long if not longer walks at BCV, BWV, SSS & OKW to the lobby.
You can not beat the theming and the WOW factor of Jambo nor can you beat the cosy family feel of Kidani. The pools rock in both parts of the resort.
Some of the best dining on property including QS. I've done many resort only stays here just because it's so beautiful and relaxing.
Many resort activities to do so if you skip front desk check in, make sure you get an activities sheet at the front desk.

Not a big fan, but we prioritize convenience over aesthetics. I would personally stay at Yatch club, much more food options. Walk to two parks.

At AKL, unless you have reservations at their 3 restaurants, you're doing cafeteria quick service. Everyone's has different preferences. We stayed there once and won't stay there again despite our now 7 and 3yr old.

Does anyone know if you can see zebras at Kidani or are they only viewable from Jambo? I can't seem to find this information anywhere

There are zebras at Kidani, Sunset Savana.

I love AK. It's not the best if you are spending most of your days at MK because the bus ride is kind of far. But overall, the buses are not bad there. It's a beautiful resort with good dining options too and nice pools

We are in our first year of memebership and bought ant Animal Kingdom after staying there for a few days last year. I adore my home resort. It's far enough away to feel quiet and tranquil yet their bus system got us where we wanted to be quickly. I actually think we wait less at AK than at other hotels. Also, the food options are incredible. Jiko and Sanaa are a must for us now. I hope you love it and have a wonderful vaca!
