I will soon be traveling to OKW with four friends from work and I really want them to be pleased and impressed with the accomodations. The problem is we are spending the first few days at the Renaissance for a convention and when we switch over to OKW won't check in until after 5. Is there anything I can do to improve our chances of getting a nonsmoking room ,non-handicapped room ? This is a big time issue for all of us. Location doesn't really matter but the n/s and no h/a are critical. I am concerned because the last time I traveled with my 78 year old mom with a heart condition, they "forgot" to block out the medical request and we had to wait one night before they could find a room that met her medical needs. I made the requests when I originally booked, but has anyone tried calling ahead or still tried faxing. I just can't understand why if the HamptonInn can guarantee N/S why can't Disney?Any suggestions?? Thanks !

As far as the non smoking request, I doubt you will have a problem, I beleive that they are now down to only three smoking buildings. To avoid the handicap requst, try also requsting an upper floor, I think all of the HA rooms are first floor, but you might want to check on that.

Has anyone here ever checked into a Hampton or any other hotel which "guarantees" N/S only to find that in reality there are no N/S rooms? My DH has, so he laughs at the idea that some people think that other hotels are really guaranteeing N/S rooms. Yes, he's had the argument at the front desk about "How can you tell me there are no N/S rooms, when that was what I was guaranteed at the time of booking?" Of course, no one's ever had an answer-just "that's the way it is". So from his experiences, Disney's just being more honest by saying that N/S is a request, but not a "guarantee".

Which Rennaisance hotel are you staying at?
Could you get up early the check in day and go over to OKW and do the check in without bags then? Explain patiently that you are trying to impress your friends as potential DVC buyers and that you need a N/S room with a tub (if you are getting a studio) or a nonhandicapped room would really be not good if the one bedroom . (And if you are out to impress, the 1 bedroom will surely do the trick!). Early in the morning you won't have a line and can probably do the check in in 15 minutes.

Also, requesting a view that you like and double checking to see if one is available in that building would help 'impress'.

The ambiance of laid back OKW is sure to impress after the hectic conference week. Use the blender and make them some margaritas, kick back, and remember a bubble bath in the jac tub if you get the 1 bedroom.

And of course, you must have the conch fritters if you want to have a really Key West kind of day!

If you are traveling with 3 friends, I assume you are getting a two bedroom. Just put Non smoking and non-handicapped as your only requests when you make the ressies. Otherwise, if the ressies are already made, try to check in as early as possible.

Two weeks ago I had a reservation for a non-smoking room with two beds at the Hampton Inn in Chapel Hill, NC. When I got there they said that they had my reservation but did not have the room. I could have a non-smoking room with a king bed.

I went to the Shreadon down the street and got a very nice room like I wanted. The Sheraton restrict smoking rooms to certain floors. They also have a note in the room saying that if you smoke in this room you will be charged a $125 deep cleaning fee. I think that Disney should adopt this plicy.

If you have a reservation with Hampton Inn, be sure to call and verify that they have your reservation and a room.

You are going to be in Orlando correct?

why can't you just run over that morning and check in?

you can check in as early as 7:00am. I don't think the convention starts until what 9 or 8.

the Renaissance near SW is around 15 minutes away on I4. (if you are lucker than me 7 minutes).

Yep, I've had that happen.

My favorite though is car rental places. Can't tell you how many times I've been to car rental places with a guarentee, only to drive off in a car I wouldn't have rented in a million years if I'd had ANY choice - a minivan in San Francisco on a business trip!
